Effects of land management practices on labile organic carbon fractions in rice cultivation

Chinese Geographical Science, 2009
A research trial with four land management practices, i.e., traditional tillage-fallow (TTF), traditional tillage-wheat (TTW), conservation tillage-fallow (CTF) and conservation tillage-wheat (CTW), was sampled in the 15th year after its establishment to assess the effects of different management practices on labile organic carbon fractions (LOCFs ...

Climate change affects soil labile organic carbon fractions in a Tibetan alpine meadow

Journal of Soils and Sediments, 2016
Purpose Changes in bioactive soil C pools and their temperature sensitivities will dominate the fate of soil organic C in a warmer future, which is not well understood in highland ecosystems. This study was conducted in order to evaluate climate change, especially cooling effects, on soil labile organic C (LOC) pools in a Tibetan alpine meadow.

Land Use Effects on the Distribution of Labile Organic Carbon Fractions through Soil Profiles

Soil Science Society of America Journal, 2006
Labile fractions of organic matter can respond rapidly to changes in C supply and are considered to be important indicators of soil quality. However, much less is known on the impact of different land use systems and depth on labile organic matter fractions.

Effects of forest conversion on soil labile organic carbon fractions and aggregate stability in subtropical China

Plant and Soil, 2009
Soil labile fractions play an important role in improving soil quality due to its ability of maintaining soil fertility and minimizing negative environmental impacts. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of forest transition (conversion of natural broadleaf forests into monoculture tree plantations) on soil labile fractions (light ...

Organic matter decomposition and carbon content in soil fractions as affected by a gradient of labile carbon input to a temperate forest soil

Biology and Fertility of Soils, 2020
Labile carbon (C) input to soils is expected to affect soil organic matter (SOM) decomposition and soil organic C (SOC) stocks in temperate coniferous forests. We hypothesized that the SOM decomposition rate, C content in soil fractions, and microbial and faunal abundance and activity were increased along the gradient in labile C input around wood ant ...

The Soil Labile Organic Carbon Fractions at the Different Ages of Tea in Three Gorges Reservoir Area

Advanced Materials Research, 2013
Soil total organic carbon (TOC), readily oxidizable C (ROC), and microbial biomass C (MBC) were determined at the different ages of tea in Three Gorges Reservoir area, China. The results showed that soil TOC and ROC in the 0-20cm decreased gradually with age of tea garden, whereas MBC had no significant difference among sites.

Labile and stabile soil organic carbon fractions in surface horizons of mountain soils – relationships with vegetation and altitude [PDF]

open access: possibleJournal of Mountain Science, 2017
Global and local climate changes could disturb carbon sequestration and carbon stocks in forest soils. Thus, it is important to characterize the stability of soil organic matter and the dynamics of soil organic carbon (SOC) fractions in forest ecosystems.

Soil organic carbon, macro- and micronutrient changes in soil fractions with different lability in response to crop intensification

Soil and Tillage Research, 2018
Abstract Soils under no tillage have experienced unfavorable changes, mainly due to current agricultural practices that consist in monocultures that leave little residue cover. The inclusion of grass as cover crops during the winter season could be a sustainable strategy to increase crop intensification in sequences where soybean predominates ...

Soil organic carbon and its labile fractions in paddy soil as influenced by water regimes and straw management

Agricultural Water Management, 2019
Abstract Understanding the effects of water regimes and straw management on soil organic carbon (SOC) pools is necessary to improve soil C sequestration and soil quality. Based on a long-term field experiment (15 years), we examined impacts of water regimes and straw management methods on total soil organic C (TOC), particulate organic C (POC) and ...
