Opioid Epidemic and Local Fiscal Choices: Causal Evidence From Hydrocodone Rescheduling

open access: yesPublic Budgeting &Finance, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The opioid epidemic has garnered attention from scholars across disciplines, yet its effect on local finances remains uncertain. We exploit an exogenous shock in hydrocodone supply, a commonly abused opioid, to estimate the causal effect of opioid exposure on local finances.

Pharmacological Pain Management for Childbirth: A Scoping Review Protocol

open access: yesActa Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica, Volume 69, Issue 6, July 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Childbirth is often a profoundly painful experience for women. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends epidural analgesia or opioids as primary pharmacological pain management options for labor. However, many other methods of analgesia are available today, although they have different evidence backgrounds. This scoping review

Return of a racehorse to racing after iatrogenic lipoid pneumonia

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, Volume 37, Issue 7, Page e105-e111, July 2025.
Summary There is a paucity of literature describing equine lipoid pneumonia (LP) caused by inadvertent intrapulmonary administration of liquid paraffin (mineral oil). This case report improves our understanding of LP by describing; (1) the first reported return of a horse to racing after LP, (2) the likely benefits of prolonged dexamethasone ...

A wearable real‐time particulate monitor demonstrates that soaking hay reduces dust exposure

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, Volume 57, Issue 4, Page 1065-1073, July 2025.
Abstract Background Affordable particulate matter (PM) monitors suitable for use on horses will facilitate the evaluation of PM mitigation methods and improve the management of equine asthma. Objective Calibrate a real‐time wearable PM monitor (Black Beauty [BB]) and compare the PM exposures of horses fed dry or soaked hay.

Gluten‐free diet during pregnancy and pregnancy outcome: A retrospective cohort study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gynecology &Obstetrics, Volume 169, Issue 3, Page 1184-1190, June 2025.
Abstract Objective A gluten‐free diet (GFD) is becoming increasingly popular, especially among young females, and including those without diagnosed celiac disease (CD). Whether a GFD is appropriate during pregnancy remains unclear. Our primary aim was to evaluate the association of a GFD and neonatal birthweight and incidence of large for gestational ...

Laser‐Induced Graphene Sensor for the Electrochemical Detection of Acetaminophen

open access: yesChemistrySelect, Volume 10, Issue 22, June 11, 2025.
In this study, we present a simple, low‐cost laser‐induced graphene (LIG) sensor for acetaminophen detection. The LIG electrode shows high conductivity, wide linear range (10–150 µM), low LOD (1.58 µM), and strong selectivity, enabling practical use in urine and pharmaceutical samples.
