Rational Household Labor Supply
Econometrica, 1988Traditionally, household behavior is derived from the maximization of a unique utility function. We propose an alternating approach, in which the household is modeled as a two-member collectivity taking Pareto-efficient decisions. The consequences of this assumption are analyzed in a three- good model, in which only total consumption and each member's ...

Abstract We model the supply of volunteer labor, which received an explicit wage of zero. Quantitatively important, it constituted over 5 percent of the entire labor supply in the United States in 1980. Both consumption and investment models are considered - the former positing volunteering as an ordinary consumer good, while the latter posits it as ...

The estimation of labor supply elasticities has been an important issue in the economic literature. Yet all works have estimated conditional mean labor supply functions only. The objective of this paper is to obtain more information on labor supply, estimating a conditional quantile labor supply function.

It may very well be that restrictions on the optimal allocation of time lead to marital conflicts. This
