Laboratory-based surveillance in the molecular era: The typened model, a joint data-sharing platform for clinical and public health laboratories [PDF]
Laboratory-based surveillance, one of the pillars of monitoring infectious disease trends, relies on data produced in clinical and/or public health laboratories. Currently, diagnostic laboratories worldwide submit strains or samples to a relatively small

Nuclear prothymosin α inhibits epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in lung cancer by increasing Smad7 acetylation and competing with Smad2 for binding to SNAI1, TWIST1, and ZEB1 promoters. In early‐stage cancer, ProT suppresses TGF‐β‐induced EMT, while its loss in the nucleus in late‐stage cancer leads to enhanced EMT and poor prognosis.

Development and validation of computable Phenotype to Identify and Characterize Kidney Health in Adult Hospitalized Patients [PDF]
Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication in hospitalized patients and a common cause for chronic kidney disease (CKD) and increased hospital cost and mortality. By timely detection of AKI and AKI progression, effective preventive or therapeutic measures could be offered.

Determination of ADP/ATP translocase isoform ratios in malignancy and cellular senescence
The individual functions of three isoforms exchanging ADP and ATP (ADP/ATP translocases; ANTs) on the mitochondrial membrane remain unclear. We developed a method for quantitatively differentiating highly similar human ANT1, ANT2, and ANT3 using parallel reaction monitoring. This method allowed us to assess changes in translocase levels during cellular

Simulating the blood transfusion system in Kenya: Modelling methods and exploratory analyses [PDF]
The process of collecting blood from donors and making it available for transfusion requires a complex series of operations involving multiple actors and resources at each step. Ensuring hospitals receive adequate and safe blood for transfusion is a common challenge across low- and middle-income countries, but is rarely addressed from a system level ...

Medical Diagnosis From Laboratory Tests by Combining Generative and Discriminative Learning [PDF]
A primary goal of computational phenotype research is to conduct medical diagnosis. In hospital, physicians rely on massive clinical data to make diagnosis decisions, among which laboratory tests are one of the most important resources. However, the longitudinal and incomplete nature of laboratory test data casts a significant challenge on its ...
