Reciprocity towards groups : a laboratory experiment on the causes [PDF]
Field studies of conflict report cycles of mutual revenge between groups, often linked to perceptions of intergroup injustice. We test the hypothesis that people are predisposed to reciprocate against groups.

Medical Insurance and Free Choice of Physician Shape Patient Overtreatment: A Laboratory Experiment
In a laboratory experiment designed to capture key aspects of the interaction between physicians and patients in a stylized way, we study the effects of medical insurance and competition in the guise of free choice of physician.

α2 → 8 polysialic acid elicits poor immunogenicity. Small‐angle scattering shows a supramolecular structure with parallel‐chain binding, although in different forms at μm and mm calcium. The major histocompatibility complex requires molecular weights around 2000 Da to produce antibodies, and 2000 Da polysialic oligomers will bind in these structures ...

European underground laboratories: An overview [PDF]
Underground laboratories are complementary to those where the research in fundamental physics is made using accelerators. This report focus on the logistic and on the background features of the most relevant laboratories in Europe, stressing also on the low background facilities available.

Laboratory experiments on whirlpools [PDF]
Two vertical pipes, placed on the axis of an open circular tank and fitted with trumpet entries of different shapes, were used in turn as overflows. Water was led into the tank in such a way that the stream approaching the trumpet under test possessed tangential velocity, which caused a vortex to appear in and above the trumpet.

The Saccharomyces cerevisiae amino acid transporter Lyp1 has a broad substrate spectrum
In Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Yeast Amino acid Transporter family members mediate the import of amino acids, ranging from substrate specialists to generalists. Here, we show that the specialist transporter, Lyp1, has a broader substrate spectrum than previously described, with affinity constants spanning from micromolar to millimolar.

Experiments on Radioactivity in a Virtual Laboratory [PDF]
This paper shows how to run some experiments of physics, using a virtual laboratory. Such a laboratory is a website, equipped with objects to be measured and measuring instruments, simulated by means of Java Applets. Here we discuss in particular the case of a laboratory in which we can perform, on the Web, some experiments on radioactivity.
