Laboratory investigation of thrombophilia. [PDF]
Until recently, laboratory diagnosis of thrombophilia was based on investigation of the plasmatic anticoagulant pathways to detect antithrombin, protein C, and protein S deficiencies and on the search for dysfibrinogenemia and anti-phospholipid antibodies/lupus anticoagulants.

LUS+: Extension of the LUS designator concept to differentiate most sequence alleles for 27 STR loci
We previously proposed representation of STR sequences using the LUS to expedite use of sequence-level information in probabilistic genotyping. To consider the greater diversity of allele sequences now known, here we surveyed datasets representing >3000 ...

Unusual presentation in Axenfeld-Rieger syndrome
We report an unusual presentation of a case of Axenfeld-Rieger (A-R) syndrome. A 14-year-old male presented with gradual dimness of vision for 1 year and redness of left eye for 3 days. The patient had megalocornea with Haab′s striae in the right eye and

Short communication: Y-STR sample haplotypes from five United States of America population groups
Y-STR haplotype data from five relevant United States population groups are provided. These data have been shared with the Y-Chromosome Haplotype Reference Database (YHRD) and are relevant for forensic casework statistics, genetic studies and other ...

Can we overcome the challenges of sutures in lamellar keratoplasty?
Lamellar keratoplasty (LK) is a technique which can be followed for both tectonic and optical purposes. We describe a technique of sutureless anterior LK by fixing the donor lenticule to the recipient bed using fibrin glue.

Network topology drives population temporal variability in experimental habitat networks
Habitat patches connected by dispersal pathways form habitat networks. We explored how network topology affects population outcomes in laboratory experiments using a model species (Daphnia carinata). Central habitat nodes in complex lattice networks exhibited lower temporal variability in population sizes, suggesting they support more stable ...
