Preoperative Laboratory Testing
Anesthesiology Clinics, 2016Routine preoperative testing is not cost-effective, because it is unlikely to identify significant abnormalities. Rheumatic Disease Clinics of North America, 1995
Despite impressive advances in our understanding of the natural history of the rheumatic diseases and their treatments, there remains much to be learned. The management of most of these diseases is far from satisfactory for either the clinician or patient. There is little distinction between clinical practice and clinical research.

Abstract This chapter describes the way genetic testing is done. Essentially, the test measures the number of CAGs which are repeated in the first part of the gene. It is possible to measure the size of a section of the gene for Huntington’s disease (HD) so as to know how many CAG repeats are present in the gene.

[Preoperative laboratory testing].
Minerva medica, 2005The preoperative laboratory screening is commonplace in clinical practice and is traditionally defined as the practice of prescribing laboratory testing before surgery on patients undergoing a given procedure. In clinical practice, laboratory tests play a major role in the investigation of underlying diseases predisposing to osteoarthritis (OA) (e.g. metabolic and genetic causes) and in the differential diagnosis of other joint disorders, particularly autoimmune and crystal-related arthropathies.
