Size-selective predation by the cleaner fish Labroides dimidiatus
Journal of Fish Biology, 1997A comparison of the size‐frequency distribution of parasitic gnathiid isopod larvae in the diet of the cleaner fish Labroides dimidiatus and on six host fish species (Chlorurus sordidus, Ctenochaetus striatus, Hemigymnus melapterus, Scolopsis bilineatus, Siganus doliatus, Thalassoma lunare) was made on one occasion.

Reversed sex-change in the protogynous reef fish Labroides dimidiatus
Ethology, 2002Protogynous hermaphroditism, or female‐to‐male sex change, is known for many reef fishes including wrasses (family Labridae) in which large males monopolize mating. When the dominant male disappears from a polygynous group, the largest female may change sex within a few weeks.

Copeia, 1997
The composition of the diet of the cleaner wrasse Labroides dimidiatus was quantified at different times and at tao spatial scales. I examined feeding selectivity in the cleaner fish by comparing its diet to the parasite: load of seven species of fish hosts it regularly cleans. Parasitic gnathiid isopods made up 50% of the estimated food volume and 95%

Hormonal Control of Cleaning Behaviour in Labroides dimidiatus (Labridae, Teleostei)
Marine Ecology, 1982. The contribution of prolactin, melatonin and the prolactin releasing pharmacon, meto-clopramide (Paspertin®), to the motivation of cleaning behaviour is analysed in the wrasse Labroides dimidiatus. The existence of a special cleaning motivation partly independent from hunger is stressed.

Geographic Variation in the Behaviour of the Cleaner Fish Labroides dimidiatus (Labridae)
Ethology, 2002Geographical variation in the outcome of interspecific interactions has a range of proximate ecological causes. For instance, cleaning interactions between coral reef fishes can result in benefits for both the cleaner and its clients. However, because both parties can cheat and because the rewards of cheating may depend on the local abundance of ...

The cytoarchitecture of the telencephalon of Labroides dimidiatus (Labridae)
As evidence for advanced cognitive abilities in fishes steadily increases, cytoarchitectonic studies of the Actinopterygian telencephalon receive increasing interest by neuro-ethologists. However, the amount of information concerning brain organization in this group is still rather small.Dominika Chojnacka +3 more

Spawning timing of the cleaner wrasse, Labroides dimidiatus , on a warm temperate rocky shore
Ichthyological Research, 2001We observed spawning behaviors of the haremic cleaner wrasse Labroides dimidiatus at a rocky reef in southern Japan. Females released pelagic eggs daily from June to September after a spawning ascent by pairs. When the high tide occurred between noon and evening (quarter moon to new or full moon), they spawned around the time of the tide providing fast

Punishment is sensitive to outside options in humans but not cleaner fish (Labroides dimidiatus)
2023Across human and animal societies, punishment is used as a means of responding to cheating and modifying the behavior of others. A growing body of work shows that human punishment decisions involve representing both the outcomes of transgressions, as well as whether a transgressor chose to do wrong.
