Aerobic Exercise Restores Hippocampal Neurogenesis and Cognitive Function by Decreasing Microglia Inflammasome Formation Through Irisin/NLRP3 Pathway

open access: yesAging Cell, EarlyView.
Exercise improved PD pathology and memory by reducing microglial inflammation, apoptosis, and the formation of the NLRP3 inflammasome via irisin signaling. Irisin administration partially replicated the beneficial effects of exercise on PD pathology.

Aged Gut Microbiota Contributes to Cognitive Impairment and Hippocampal Synapse Loss in Mice

open access: yesAging Cell, EarlyView.
Li et al. revealed that aged gut microbiota induces cognitive decline and microglia‐mediated synapse loss. Fecal Bifidobacterium pseudolongum abundance was reduced in patients with cognitive impairment and microbiota transplantation from patients with fewer B.p abundance yielded worse cognitive behavior in mice.

SGLT2 Inhibition by Enavogliflozin Significantly Reduces Aβ Pathology and Restores Cognitive Function via Upregulation of Microglial AMPK Signaling in 5XFAD Mouse Model of Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAging Cell, EarlyView.
SGLT2 inhibition with Enavogliflozin significantly improves cognitive function and reduces Aβ pathology in the 5XFAD mouse model of Alzheimer's disease. Through AMPK activation, Enavogliflozin enhances microglial mitochondrial function and Aβ phagocytosis while reducing neuroinflammation.

Flight from the Fight? Civil War and its Effects on Refugees

open access: yes, 2015
Civil war dominates conflict in the modern era. An effect of this is a large number of refugees, who flee from war-torn countries in favor of lands where they can live in safety.

Accumulation of GSK‐3β in Interneurons Impairs Adult Hippocampal Neurogenesis by Inhibiting GABAergic Transmission

open access: yesAging Cell, EarlyView.
Overexpression of GSK‐3β in DG GABAergic neurons impairs neurogenesis by reducing GABA release, which can be reversed by enhancing GABAergic transmission. ABSTRACT The activation of glycogen synthase kinase 3β (GSK‐3β) and the deterioration of spatial memory represent prominent pathological and clinical manifestations of Alzheimer's disease (AD ...
