Personalized Models of Biological Barriers and Their Diseases: Recent Progress with Organs‐On‐Chips
Buck and Bugter et al. explore the architectural diversity and physiological functions of human barrier systems and reveal how organ‐on‐chip platforms, particularly those integrating patient‐derived cells, are advancing barrier disease modeling. They highlight how emerging biological and technological advances can be used to bridge the gap between ...

Extracellular Vesicles: Biology, Intercellular Communication and Therapeutic Potential in Diabetes
Exosome packaging in diabetes mellitus is depicted. Induced expression levels of RBP4, WNT related proteins, TGFB1, BMPs, VEGFs, STAT3, Calpain2 and altered expression levels of microRNAs in the exosomes are responsible for the inflammatory actions, defective central metabolism, myofibroblasts proliferation, dysregulated cell migration, cell ...

Study on the Sealing Structure of Scroll Tooth of an Oil-free Scroll Compressor
A novel type of radial combined sealing structure was proposed to improve the end-face sealing of wraps between fixed and orbiting scrolls. Geometry and engineering fluid mechanics were considered to develop an algorithm for determining leakage from the ...

Astrocytic PERK Deficiency Drives Prefrontal Circuit Dysfunction and Depressive‐Like Behaviors
Chen et al. show that the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress sensor PERK is downregulated in prefrontal cortex (PFC) astrocytes in major depressive disorder and in chronic‐stress mouse models. In young mice, astrocyte‐specific PERK loss reduces the synaptogenic cue thrombospondin‐1 (TSP1), leading to synaptic and circuit deficits and depressive‐like ...

The Single‐Nanostructured Optoelectronic Vehicle for neuromodulation Activation (SNOVA) establishes a paradigm for non‐genetic, implant‐free neuromodulation. By integrating NIR‐excitable UCNPs with broadband‐absorbing perovskite QDs, SNOVA efficiently converts deeply penetrating light into localized electric fields that modulate neuronal ion dynamics ...

Flow induced force of labyrinth seal [PDF]
Flow induced instability force due to a labyrinth seal is analyzed. An approximate solution is given for the partial differential equation representing the flow in labyrinth seal and it is compared with the finite difference method in order to verify the

Osteoclast‐Derived SLIT3 Mediates Osteoarthritis Pain and Degenerative Changes
In TMJ‐OA, osteoclasts play a significant role in promoting the growth of sensory nerves at the osteochondral interface. In early OA, TRAP+ osteoclast‐derived SLIT3 induces sensory nerve growth into the condylar cartilage. This nerve growth facilitates the development of pain associated with OA.
