Performance and Design of Labyrinth Weirs

Journal of the Hydraulics Division, 1970
The purpose of the labyrinth weir is to increase the discharge per unit width of channel beyond that usually obtained from a conventional weir under identical head conditions. This is achieved by compressing a large length of crest in concertina form into the space available on site.

Discharge coefficient of a rectangular labyrinth weir

Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Water Management, 2013
A rectangular labyrinth weir has a very good flood release capacity as well as strong economical and structural advantages. In this study, combined analytical and experimental investigations were undertaken for a rectangular labyrinth weir. The analytical model is based on the synthesis of general weir equations and spatially varied flow dynamic ...

Case study of a labyrinth weir spillway

Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering, 1990
A labyrinth weir is an effective and economical means of providing increased spillway capacity under some restricted operating conditions. This type of weir is particularly suited to reservoir sites where a low head to high discharge relation is required, the topography restricts the spillway width, and a self-operating structure is highly desirable ...

Labyrinth Weirs with Angled Approach Flow

Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 2018
AbstractCurrent design methods and research have primarily investigated the hydraulic characteristics of labyrinth weirs when the approach flow is perpendicular to the weir axis, a condition consis...

Labyrinth and Piano Key Weirs

2011
Dam engineering is currently experiencing a strong revival of labyrinth oriented weirs. Labyrinth weirs, with a repetitive constructional character and an increased specific discharge capacity, are a very good technical-economical compromise. The concept of Piano Key Weir (PKW), with alveoli developed in overhangs from a reduced support area ...

Arced Labyrinth Weir Flow Characteristics

2012
The increase in predicted extreme flood event magnitudes has required the modification of many existing reservoir spillway flow control structures with more hydraulically efficient designs. The arced labyrinth is a relatively new, highly efficient, nonlinear weir design specifically applicable to reservoir applications.

Staged and Notched Labyrinth Weir Hydraulics

2012
ABSTRACT: Replacement spillways are frequently required to pass revised and larger design storm events. Generally matching the outflow hydrograph of the existing spillway is also a common design requirement. Labyrinth spillways can increase spillway discharge capacity.

Testing the Outflow Process over a Triangular Labyrinth Weir

Journal of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering, 2017
AbstractIn this paper, the dimensionless stage-discharge relation for a sharp-crested triangular labyrinth weir, determined in a previous study, is initially tested by some experimental runs carrie...

Experimental Studies on Flow over Labyrinth Weir

Journal of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering, 2012
AbstractLabyrinth spillway is the effective and economical solution to increase the discharge by increasing the spillway crest length without an associated increase in structure width. Use of labyrinth spillway is particularly suited to sites where the spillway width and upstream water surface are limited and larger discharging capacities are required.
