Autophagy Plays a Suppressive Role in Bladder Tumor Formation in an Orthotopic Mouse Model and Bladder Cancer Patient Specimens

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Autophagy plays either a suppressing or promoting role during tumor development. Clarifying the role of autophagy in bladder tumorigenesis both in vitro and in vivo is crucial for developing novel therapeutic strategies through manipulating autophagy activity.

Financial inclusion in the digital era and its impact on sustainable development across ASEAN countries through combined nonparametric methods

open access: yesDiscover Sustainability
This study investigates the impact of Digital Financial Inclusion (DFI) on Sustainable Development (SD) across ASEAN countries during 2007–2022. By employing the Quantile-on-Quantile Regression (QQR) and Wavelet Coherence (WC) approaches, the analysis ...

Admission Plasma Lipopolysaccharide‐binding protein, Procalcitonin, and Lactate for Early Identification of Nosocomial Infection in Cirrhotic Patients With Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding: A Retrospective Analysis

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study aimed to assess whether admission plasma lipopolysaccharide‐binding protein (LBP), procalcitonin (PCT), and lactate could improve detection of nosocomial infection in cirrhotic patients presenting with upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB).

Triglyceride‐Glucose Index‐Based Nomogram for Predicting Short‐Term Mortality in Sepsis Patients

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The triglyceride‐glucose (TyG) index, a marker of insulin resistance, is associated with outcomes in critical illness; however, its predictive role for 28‐day mortality in Asian patients with sepsis has not been established. To address this, the current investigation was designed to evaluate its prognostic significance and to construct a risk ...

Glyco‐Nanogels for Modulating Pseudomonas aeruginosa Biofilm

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, EarlyView.
Nanogels presenting α‐galactose and β‐fucose can significantly alter Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilm dynamics through their interaction with lectins. Application timing is crucial: pre‐treatment reduces biofilm, while treatment after biofilm initiation increases biomass.

Advancements in Mass Spectrometry‐Based Glycomics in Food and Nutritional Science

open access: yesMass Spectrometry Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This review highlights advancements in mass spectrometry (MS)‐based glycomics in food and nutritional science. Carbohydrates, which are vital for human health, exhibit complex structures, making their analysis challenging. MS has become an indispensable tool for elucidating the structures of carbohydrates, including glycans, through soft ...

Evaluation on the clinical findings and allergological factors of local allergic conjunctivitis and non-local allergic conjunctivitis

open access: yesScientific Reports
We previously reported that 16.9% of allergic conjunctival disease cases were local allergic conjunctivitis (LAC). We therefore retrospectively investigated the pathological and clinical changes of LAC.

China's Competitive Threat to Latin America: An Analysis for 1990-2002 [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper explores China's competitive threat to Latin America in trade in manufactures. The direct threat in exports to third country markets appears small: LAC's trade structure is largely complementary to that of China.

On the Origin of the Brain Semi‐Heavy Water Deuterium MR Signal Following Administration of Deuterated Metabolic Substrate: A Cautionary Tale

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose To evaluate the extent to which the appearance of HOD in the brain following systemic administration of a deuterated substrate is due to local brain metabolism versus body metabolism. Methods [6,6‐2H2]glucose, which is transported across the blood‐brain barrier (BBB), and [6,6‐2H2]fructose (Fruc), which does not cross the BBB, were ...

Quantitative Imaging of Pyruvate Metabolism in a Patient With Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose Magnetic resonance imaging using hyperpolarized (HP) [1‐13C]‐pyruvate enables assessment of pyruvate metabolism in vivo and offers new insight into metabolic changes in response to cancer therapy. Widely used semi‐quantitative metrics of pyruvate metabolism can be affected by physiological factors that are extrinsic to intracellular ...
