Histological, histochemical and ultrastructural studies on Harderian and lacrimal glands of the Capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus major L.) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This study describes the macroscopic anatomy and the microscopic and ultrastructural features of the Harderian gland and lacrimal gland of the Capercaillies. It was conducted both on adult male and female Capercaillies.

Malignancies and immunoglobulin G4‐related disease

open access: yesRheumatology &Autoimmunity, EarlyView.
Immunoglobulin G4‐related disease (IgG4‐RD) is associated with increased cancer risk. Malignancies affect both IgG4‐RD involved organs, such as the lung, pancreas, bile duct, and prostate, and noninvolved organs, such as the gastrointestinal duct. B‐cell neoplasms constitute a proportion of the malignancies linked to this disease.

Iguratimod alleviated Sjögren's syndrome through regulating macrophage polarization

open access: yesRheumatology &Autoimmunity, EarlyView.
Nonobese diabetic (NOD) mice exhibited characteristic of Sjögren's syndrome (SS), with increased M1 macrophages and deceased M2 macrophages. Iguratimod alleviated SS‐like symptoms and restored balance of macrophage polarization through inhibiting the mitogen‐activated protein kinases pathway in NOD mice.

Explicit approximation of the wavenumber for lined ducts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
For acoustic waves in lined ducts, at given frequencies, the dispersion relation leads to a transcendental equation for the wavenumber that has to be solved by numerical methods. Based on Eckart explicit expression initially derived for water waves, accurate explicit approximations are proposed for the wavenumber of the fundamental mode in lined ducts.

Bifurcations and dynamics in inertial focusing of particles in curved rectangular ducts [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Particles suspended in fluid flow through a curved duct focus to stable equilibrium positions in the duct cross-section due to the balance of two dominant forces: (i) inertial lift force - arising from the inertia of the fluid, and (ii) secondary drag force - resulting from cross-sectional vortices induced by the curvature of the duct.

The Surgical Outcome of Endoscopic Dacryocystorhinostomy According to the Obstruction Levels of Lacrimal Drainage System [PDF]

open access: yesClinical and Experimental Otorhinolaryngology, 2009
ObjectivesMany factors influence the outcome of endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR). One of the most important prognostic factors is the level of obstruction in the lacrimal drainage system.

Dental disease in rabbits under UK primary veterinary care: Clinical management and associated welfare impacts

open access: yesVeterinary Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Dental disease is a painful and highly prevalent condition in companion rabbits. However, the dental disease management techniques currently employed by UK primary‐care veterinarians and potential associated clinical welfare implications are scarcely described.

High-Order Large-Eddy Simulations of a Wind Turbine in Ducted and Open-Rotor Configurations [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
High-order large-eddy simulations are performed to study the performance and flow field of a ducted wind turbine operating at different tip speed ratios. To evaluate the effects of the duct, simulations with the same tip speed ratios are also performed on the corresponding open-rotor turbine.

Duct System of the Rabbit Lacrimal Gland: Structural Characteristics and Role in Lacrimal Secretion [PDF]

open access: yesInvestigative Opthalmology & Visual Science, 2010
To develop a nomenclature for the lacrimal duct system in the rabbit, based on the anatomic and structural characteristics of each duct segment, and to provide RT-PCR and immunofluorescence data to support the notion that the duct system plays important roles in lacrimal function.Paraffin-embedded lacrimal glands (LGs) were stained with hematoxylin and

The association of neonatal dacryocystoceles and infantile dacryocystitis with nasolacrimal duct cysts (an American Ophthalmogical Society Thesis) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
PURPOSE: To investigate whether neonatal dacryocystoceles and dacryocystitis are associated with nasolacrimal duct cysts, and to report the outcomes of treatment of these disorders. METHODS: This was a retrospective medical record review of two groups of
