Complications and Clinical Outcomes Following Modified Endoscopic Denker's With Pyriform Aperture Preservation: A Prospective Analysis

open access: yesInternational Forum of Allergy &Rhinology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background The modified endoscopic Denker's (MED) approach provides access to all maxillary sinus (MS) walls for resection of various MS and retromaxillary pathologies, but the anteromedial maxilla has historically been resected. This study determined complication rates and outcomes following MED with pyriform aperture (PA) preservation ...

A detailed redescription of a skeletally immature ‘Redondasaurus’ suggests ontogenetic transformations in the taxon mirror phytosaurian morphological evolution

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The study of morphological evolution is fundamentally tied to ontogeny, yet studies of these heterochronic processes in the fossil record are rare. Fossils belonging to an ontogenetic series are difficult to assign to an ontogenetic stage due to inconsistent proxies for skeletal ages, challenging to taxonomically assign due to morphological ...

Pathological, immunohistochemical and microbiologicalal analysis of lacrimal sac biopsies in patients with chronic dacrocystitis

open access: yesInternational Journal of Ophthalmology, 2013
AIM:To analyze cases of obstruction of the nasolacrimal duct which creates a fertile environment for secondary bacterial infection and can result in dacryocystitis, which is a constant threat to cornea and orbital soft tissue and a potential source of ...

Rethinking brachycephaly: Anatomical implications and health considerations in lagomorphs

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Brachycephaly in domestic rabbits is increasingly perceived by welfare organizations as associated with significant health complications, particularly oral pathologies. Despite this perception, comparative anatomical research into rabbit brachycephaly is limited compared to that of dogs and cats, compelling an in‐depth examination of its ...

Descriptive, comparative, and functional anatomy of the facial musculature in cattle (Bos taurus)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Facial expressions can provide insight into animal emotions and pain, but no standardized system for assessing the entire facial display in cattle (Bos taurus Linnaeus) exists. The Facial Action Coding System (FACS), originally developed for humans, identifies distinct facial movements based on mimetic muscles.

Modified External Dacryocystorhinostomy in Primary Acquired Nasolacrimal Duct Obstruction [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, 2015
Background: Epiphora secondary to acquired nasolacrimal duct obstruction is a common ophthalmic problem in adults requiring surgical management. External dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) is a reliable but difficult surgical technique for the treatment of ...

Description of large, well‐preserved Enchodus specimens from the Bearpaw Formation of Alberta, Canada

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Fishes of the genus Enchodus were abundant and cosmopolitan in the Late Cretaceous, but are primarily known from isolated remains in Canada. Four well‐preserved fish skulls were recovered in recent years from ammolite mines sampling the Bearpaw Formation of Southern Alberta, and are here referred to Enchodus petrosus Cope, 1874.

Role of SoxE transcription factors in development and disease

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Sox8, Sox9, and Sox10 arose by multiple rounds of genome duplications from a single SoxE gene in ancestral vertebrates. In this review, we will briefly discuss the molecular structure and function of SoxE transcription factors and their evolutionary origin. We will then discuss their expression, function, and developmental disorders.

Modeling Chronic Dacryocystitis in Rabbits by Nasolacrimal Duct Obstruction with Self-Curing Resin

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmology, 2017
We established a chronic dacryocystitis model by injecting of 0.05, 0.1, and 0.15 ml self-curing resin via the lacrimal punctum in rabbits. Animals were randomized into four groups (n=11 animals/group).

Cold-Plasma Ablation Use in Endoscopic Endonasal Dacryocystorhinostomy

open access: yesOftalʹmologiâ, 2019
The aim is to evaluate efficacy of the method of cold-plasma ablation when performing endonasal of dacryocystorhinostomy. Patients and Methods. With the use of the equipment Coblator II were 31 unilateral dacryocystorhinostomy patients with obstruction ...
