A Lacrimal Gland Choristoma of the Lacrimal Sac

Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, 2018
Choristomatous lacrimal gland tissue has been detected in many different sites of the ocular adnexa, but has never before been convincingly described in the submucosa of the lacrimal sac. A 77-year-old woman with epiphora had a biopsy of the sac wall preformed during a dacryocystorhinostomy that contained such a lacrimal choristoma.

Tumors of the lacrimal gland

Seminars in Diagnostic Pathology, 2016
Tumors of the lacrimal gland comprise a wide spectrum, of which the most common demonstrate epithelial and lymphoid differentiation. The diagnosis of lacrimal gland tumors depends primarily on histological evaluation, as do the choice of treatment and prognosis.

Cystadenoma of the lacrimal gland

Orbit, 2002
Cystadenoma is a benign cystic tumor predominantly affecting the major and minor salivary glands. We present a case of bilateral cystadenoma of the lacrimal gland, which to the best of our knowledge has never been reported earlier. The patient had slowly increasing, painless, bilateral upper eyelid swelling.

Myoepithelioma of the Lacrimal Gland

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1997
A right orbital tumor was excised from a 76-year-old woman. Pathological examination showed that the tumor was composed of spindle to cuboidal cells arranged in a solid to trabecular pattern. Immunohistochemical stains were positive for S-100 protein, muscle-specific actin, cytokeratins MAK6 and AE1,3, and glial fibrillary acid protein and negative for

Lacrimal gland hemangiopericytoma

Orbit, 1998
A 45-year-old man and a 21-year old man presented with palpable lacrimal gland fossa masses and mechanical ptosis and proptosis, respectively. Computed tomography demonstrated well-circumscribed, partially cystic tumors. Echography in one case showed a well-outlined, predominantly low-reflective lesion with cysts and moderate vascularity detected by ...

Development of lacrimal gland spheroids for lacrimal gland tissue regeneration

Journal of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine, 2018
Severe dry eye syndrome resulting from lacrimal gland (LG) dysfunction can cause blindness, yet treatments remain palliative. In vitro reconstruction of LG tissue could provide a curative treatment. We aimed to combine epithelial cells with endothelial cells and mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) to form a 3D functional unit.

Is the lacrimal gland dispensable? Keratoconjunctivitis sicca after lacrimal gland removal

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1975
A persistent, unilateral keratoconjunctivitis sicca developed immediately after palpebral dacryoadenectomy in a healthy 43-year-old woman with normal eyes and tear function before the operation. The unoperated on fellow eye remained normal during a ten-year period. Eight similar cases are collected from the literature.

A Case of Lacrimal Gland Dirofilariasis

Ophthalmologica, 2007
A patient with a diagnosis of chronic and idiopathic unilateral dacryoadenitis was submitted to our clinic for diagnostic reasons from a regional hospital. Within a period of 1 year, this was the second onset of a swelling in the region of the lacrimal gland which – unlike the first time – showed resistance to antibiotic treatment.

Aberrant Lacrimal Gland

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1958
A survey of the English medical literature reveals that there are six documented cases of aberrant tissue with a structure identical to that of the lacrimal gland involving the eye. Of these only two extended onto the cornea. It is the purpose of this paper to review the known information on this subject and to present such a congenital abnormality in ...

Unilateral Congenital Lacrimal Gland Agenesis With Contralateral Lacrimal Gland Hypoplasia

Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus, 2015
Congenital alacrima is a form of primary lacrimal deficiency characterized by aplasia or hypoplasia of the lacrimal gland. The puncta and salivary glands may also be aplastic. The case of a 5-year-old girl with congenital alacrima secondary to lacrimal gland agenesis and hypoplasia without punctal or salivary gland involvement and without ...
