Our data support the role for HDL and PLTP in the elimnation of LPS during human peritonitis with sepsis. Increased H4‐LPS elimination was associated with reduced inflammation and lower mortality. Abstract Background The high‐density lipoprotein (HDL) and the phospholipid transfer protein (PLTP) have been demonstrated to enhance endotoxin elimination ...

Near‐Death Experience During Emergency Ketamine Use: A Case Report
We report a near‐death experience in a 73‐year‐old woman with acute respiratory failure who received an accidental 500 mg ketamine dose during intubation. Semi‐structured interviews revealed a vivid and evolving NDE narrative, followed by lasting psychological transformation, underscoring the clinical and research significance of NDEs in critical care.

ABSTRACT Primary mitochondrial diseases (PMD) are caused by pathogenic variants in over 350 genes, 37 of which are located in mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA). While more than 100 mtDNA variants have confirmed disease associations, there are few reports of mtDNA‐related PMD in patients with African heritage, even in well‐studied populations.

Adenosine A1 and A2a receptors modulate insulinemia, glycemia, and lactatemia in fetal sheep
Adenosine A1 and A2A receptor subtypes modulate metabolism in adult mammals. This study was designed to determine the role of these receptors in regulating plasma levels of insulin, glucose, and lactate in 20 chronically catheterized fetal sheep (>0.8 term).

Parenclitic network mapping predicts survival in critically ill patients with sepsis
Abstract Sepsis is a complex disease involving multiple organ systems. A network physiology approach to sepsis may reveal collective system behaviors and intrinsic organ interactions. However, mapping functional connectivity for individual patients has been challenging due to the lack of analytical methods for evaluating physiological networks using ...
