Premalignant Disorders of the Breast in Pregnancy and Lactation

2020
Papillomas, atypical hyperplasias, and lobular carcinoma in situ of the breast are not malignant tumors, but present serious management challenges when they are diagnosed in a breast biopsy . Upgrading after excision and increased possibility of future cancer are risks that accompany these lesions. While some features have been defined as high-risk for

Prescribing for psychiatric disorders in pregnancy and lactation

Best Practice & Research Clinical Obstetrics & Gynaecology, 2001
The most recent Confidential Enquiry into the causes of maternal deaths during the perinatal period in England and Wales (1994-1996) revealed that psychological illness was at least as important as hypertensive disorders. Hyperventilation and lactate metabolism in panic disorder

Biological Psychiatry, 1989
392 elderly subjects (ages 60-79) were administered a battery of tests of memory and attention to assess the acute and chronic effects of placebo, 2.5 mg and 10 mg diazepam. The elderly showed increased sensitivity to the adverse acute effects of a single dose on some performance measures (not attributable to differences in plasma drug concentration ...

Clinical Presentations of Breast Disorders in Pregnancy and Lactation [PDF]

open access: possible, 2020
The breast tissue undergoes significant physiological change during pregnancy and lactation. These changes can give rise to some unique disorders during pregnancy , puerperium and lactation or exaggerate pre-existing conditions. Clinical examination becomes less reliable due to textural change and density of breast tissue as a result of hormonal ...

Lactate-induced panic in primary affective disorder

American Journal of Psychiatry, 1986
Intravenous sodium lactate was given to seven patients with primary depression and secondary panic attacks and 26 patients with panic disorder or agoraphobia with panic attacks. The two groups had similar rates of panic response. These results challenge the diagnostic specificity of lactate-induced panic.

Biological correlates of lactate sensitivity in panic disorder

Biological Psychiatry, 1989
In this pilot study, 9/9 patients with panic disorder experienced a lactate-induced panic attack as compared with 0/9 controls. Baseline measurements were significant for higher anxiety self-ratings, higher heart and respiratory rates, elevated potassium, and lower lymphocyte 3H-dihydroalprenolol (DHA) binding in the patient group.

Response to lactate infusion in generalized anxiety disorder

Biological Psychiatry, 1988
Intravenous sodium lactate infusion provokes symptoms of panic in patients with panic disorder at a significantly higher rate than in normal controls. Lactate sensitivity has been postulated to be specific for patients with panic attacks regardless of frequency of attacks or coexisting diagnoses.

Sodium lactate response and familial risk for panic disorder [PDF]

open access: possibleAmerican Journal of Psychiatry, 1995
The authors used the family study method to test the hypothesis that sodium lactate response defines two subtypes of panic disorder.Rates of panic disorder in 142 first-degree relatives of patients who responded to sodium lactate, 88 first-degree relatives of patients who did not respond to sodium lactate, and 231 first-degree relatives of never ...
