Biological correlates of lactate sensitivity in panic disorder

Biological Psychiatry, 1989
In this pilot study, 9/9 patients with panic disorder experienced a lactate-induced panic attack as compared with 0/9 controls. Baseline measurements were significant for higher anxiety self-ratings, higher heart and respiratory rates, elevated potassium, and lower lymphocyte 3H-dihydroalprenolol (DHA) binding in the patient group.

Response to lactate infusion in generalized anxiety disorder

Biological Psychiatry, 1988
Intravenous sodium lactate infusion provokes symptoms of panic in patients with panic disorder at a significantly higher rate than in normal controls. Lactate sensitivity has been postulated to be specific for patients with panic attacks regardless of frequency of attacks or coexisting diagnoses.

Sodium lactate response and familial risk for panic disorder [PDF]

open access: possibleAmerican Journal of Psychiatry, 1995
The authors used the family study method to test the hypothesis that sodium lactate response defines two subtypes of panic disorder.Rates of panic disorder in 142 first-degree relatives of patients who responded to sodium lactate, 88 first-degree relatives of patients who did not respond to sodium lactate, and 231 first-degree relatives of never ...

The Diagnostic Utility of Lactate Sensitivity in Panic Disorder

Archives of General Psychiatry, 1990
Lactate infusion is the most extensively studied of the pharmacological challenge tests in panic disorder. We assessed the value of this test in the diagnosis and subtyping of panic in clinical and research settings. Analysis of lactate infusion studies to date suggests that patients with panic attacks are significantly more sensitive to lactate than ...

Calcium and Bone Disorders During Pregnancy and Lactation

Endocrinology and Metabolism Clinics of North America, 2006
Adaptations in mineral metabolism occur during pregnancy and lactation, and these adaptations uniquely affect the presentation, diagnosis, and management of disorders of calcium and bone metabolism. Maternal adaptations to pregnancy and lactation have evolved differently over time, such that dietary calcium absorption dominates in pregnancy, whereas ...

Imaging of pregnant and lactating patients with suspected adrenal disorders

Reviews in Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders, 2022
A high level of clinical suspicion is essential in the diagnosis and management of a suspected adrenal mass during pregnancy and the peripartum period. Timely recognition is important in order to improve fetal and maternal outcomes. Imaging is often performed to confirm a suspected adrenal lesion; however, increasing usage of diagnostic imaging during ...

Lactate: A New Target for Brain Disorders

Neuroscience
Lactate in the brain is produced endogenously and exogenously. The primary functional cells that produce lactate in the brain are astrocytes. Astrocytes release lactate to act on neurons, thereby affecting neuronal function, through a process known as the astrocyte-neuron shuttle.

Sodium lactate response as a model for panic disorders

Trends in Neurosciences, 1984
An important advance in our understanding of panic disorder is the use of an infusion of sodium lactate as a biological stimulus of an attack, which should enable researchers to investigate such attacks under laboratory conditions.

Genetic background of claw disorders in the course of lactation and their relationships with type traits.

Journal of animal breeding and genetics = Zeitschrift fur Tierzuchtung und Zuchtungsbiologie, 2013
Random regression threshold animal models were applied to binary longitudinal claw disorder data for studying genetic parameters of all claw disorders (ACD), as well as to claw disorders divided into different categories: non-purulent claw disorders ...

Relationship of maternal high-fat diet during pregnancy and lactation to offspring health.

Nutrition reviews, 2020
A balanced maternal diet is essential for proper fetal development, and the consumption of a nutritionally inadequate diet during intrauterine development and early childhood is associated with a significantly increased risk of metabolic and brain ...
