Heterosis in crisphead lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) hybrids
Euphytica, 1990Six of 16 F1 hybrids from diverse crosses of crisphead lettuce with butterhead, cos or other crispheads significantly outyielded their respective better parent. Four were crosses between crisphead and cos parents, one was a butterhead × crisphead cross and one, a winter crisphead × winter crisphead cross.

1992Lettuce (Lactuca sativa) is a cool-season leafy vegetable belonging to the Cicoreae tribe of the family Compositae. Evidence from Egyptian tomb paintings indicates that the crop has been cultivated since before 4500 B.c. It is thought to have originated from a progenitor similar to L.
