Microsatellite fingerprinting in lettuce ( Lactuca sativa L.) and wild relatives
Plant Cell Reports, 1998Southern hybridisation with a single microsatellite probe, (TCT)10, sufficed to discriminate between a representative set of cultivars/accessions of lettuce, Lactuca sativa L., and its wild relatives L. serriola, L. saligna and L. virosa. Variability within cultivars was tested in a relatively modern cultivar (Hector), where no variation was found, and

Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) is a domestic annual species in the family Asteraceae (Compositae) cultivated mainly for its fleshy leaves. It forms within the genus Lactuca a somewhat isolated genetic compatibility group with three wild species that also have nine pairs of chromosomes, L. serriola, L. saligna and L. virosa (Thompson et al.

Allelopathic potential in lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) plants
Scientia Horticulturae, 2005Abstract Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) is known to contain water-soluble substances that are allelopathic. Aqueous or methanol extracts and residues from leaves of lettuce cultivar “Cheongchima”, which showed the most inhibitory effects, were assayed to determine their allelopathic effects on seed germination and early seedling growth of several plant ...

Heterosis in crisphead lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) hybrids
Euphytica, 1990Six of 16 F1 hybrids from diverse crosses of crisphead lettuce with butterhead, cos or other crispheads significantly outyielded their respective better parent. Four were crosses between crisphead and cos parents, one was a butterhead × crisphead cross and one, a winter crisphead × winter crisphead cross.

Micropropagation of Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.)
1992Lettuce (Lactuca sativa) is a cool-season leafy vegetable belonging to the Cicoreae tribe of the family Compositae. Evidence from Egyptian tomb paintings indicates that the crop has been cultivated since before 4500 B.c. It is thought to have originated from a progenitor similar to L.
