ABSTRACT The c. 1 Ga Diabaig Formation of north‐west Scotland preserves diverse lacustrine and fluvial facies and abundant microbial and non‐microbial surficial sedimentary features. 172.6 m of section was logged across seven localities to assess the distribution of microbially induced sedimentary structures (MISS) relative to lithofacies, substrate ...

Research‐based knowledge is essential for effective conservation and restoration of threatened aquatic species and habitats. Here, our aim was to gather this knowledge on the lake‐dwelling grayling (Thymallus thymallus), typically a riverine fish.

A tale of two microbialites: Stromatolites and microbially induced sedimentary structures
ABSTRACT Microbialites are biosedimentary structures built by microbial mats. Five microbialite groups are distinguished: stromatolites, thrombolites, dendrolites, leiloites and microbially induced sedimentary structures (MISS). This contribution discusses the two most abundant microbialite groups in marine settings, stromatolites and MISS.

ABSTRACT Features considered indicative of hyperpycnites and intrabasinal turbidites overlap. Outcrop study presented here suggests that the Westward Ho! Formation forms an 800 m high deepwater‐slope system dominated by hyperpycnites. Taking this unit, and other successions where hyperpycnites have been described, as having been deposited solely from ...

Titan's fluvial and lacustrine landscapes
In this chapter we begin with a review of Titan's fluvial and lacustrine landscapes as observed with Cassini remote sensing data, and what the many discoveries have revealed about Titan's surface materials and climate. Yet Cassini remote sensing data are coarse, topographic data are largely lacking, and the absence of in situ field measurements means ...

Microplastic Dynamics in Sediment Layers of Two Ramsar‐Designated Wetlands
ABSTRACT Little is known about the vertical and spatial dynamics of microplastics in relation to hydrology and land use, particularly in African context. This study aimed to assess the abundance, type, colour and vertical distribution of microplastics in sediment from two Ramsar‐designated wetlands, the Makuleke and Nylsvley. Sediment core samples were

Abstract Notosuchians were key components of western Gondwanan Cretaceous ecosystems in terrestrial predator niches and exhibited remarkable taxonomic and ecological diversity. Previous research has explored their physiology, metabolism, and histology, revealing varied growth patterns and life history strategies.
