Abstract Devastating snow avalanches are frequent in High Mountain Asia (HMA) yet remain undocumented with climate change impact drivers poorly understood. Here we introduce the first record of 60 million avalanche deposits across 10,701 small catchments, compiled from 33 years of Landsat data from 1990 until 2022 using a snow index.

Whirlwinds in Ladakh, India: An Initial Assessment of ARW‐WRF Performance
First‐ever visual evidence of whirlwinds in the Himalayan Ladakh region is presented. Whirlwinds were photographically captured in Stok, Choglamsar, and Nubra valleys in Ladakh, India, in June 2018. This study optimises a hybrid renewable energy system (HRES) for the Baliakandi Upazila Health Complex using Hybrid Optimisation Model for Electric Renewables (HOMER) Pro software. The optimal configuration (Case I) achieves the lowest cost of energy ($0.0329/kWh) and a 70% reduction in CO2‚ emissions, enhancing sustainability and energy security.
