Genetic diversity and population structure analysis of Ethiopian mustard (Brassica carinata A. Braun) accessions using simple sequence repeat markers

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences &Environment, Volume 9, Issue 3, September 2026.
Abstract Brassica carinata A. Braun is an oilseed that originated in Ethiopia with a wide range of industrial and food applications. Exploring the genetic structure of the crop is crucial for breeding and conservation measures. Despite the fairly large number of B.

Climate‐smart Naga chili (Capsicum chinense Jacq.) cultivation: Adapting fertilizer and irrigation practices for changing climate

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences &Environment, Volume 9, Issue 3, September 2026.
Abstract Limited winter rainfall and rising irrigation costs threaten sustainable Naga chili (Capsicum chinense Jacq.) production in Bangladesh. However, the combined effects of crop‐specific irrigation and soil‐test‐based fertilization on Naga chili productivity and resource‐use efficiency remain poorly understood.

Can Artificial Tree Cavities Provide Population Support to Cavity‐Dependent Non‐Flying Mammals?

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 9, September 2026.
Artificial tree cavities may be used to restore habitat quality that may otherwise take many decades to recover naturally. We provide compelling evidence for two species of Australian cavity‐dependent mammals showing high and sustained usage of artificial cavities over 6 years, high levels of breeding within the cavities and support for large segments ...

DNA Extraction Optimisation for Minute Land Snails of Vertigo Müller, 1773 (Gastropoda: Vertiginidae): A Comparative Evaluation of Six Methods, Including a Non‐Destructive Shell‐Preserving Protocol

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 9, September 2026.
We compared six DNA extraction methods for minute Vertigo land snails, including a rapid non‐destructive HotSHOT protocol that preserves shells. The shell‐preserving protocol produced sequenceable DNA from very small and conservation‐relevant specimens while retaining voucher morphology.

Fish Scales: A Multifunctional Biomaterial from Nature

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, Volume 9, Issue 5, September 2026.
Fish scales demonstrate nature's solution to impact protection through overlapping multilayered architecture. This biological design combines mineralized surfaces with collagen networks to achieve both flexibility and fracture resistance. The structural principles inspire advanced protective materials and biomedical implants, where damage tolerance ...
