The double-edged sword effect of warming on the soil predatory mite Cosmolaelaps brevistilis (Karg, 1978) (Mesostigmata: Laelapidae)

open access: yesEntomological Communications, 2023
In this study we used the average annual temperature in Brazil and four warming predictions to propose a maximum thermal threshold for the predatory mite Cosmolaelaps brevistilis (Karg, 1978) (Mesostigmata: Laelapidae) as an experimental model. Then, we

Alternative Food for Litter‐Inhabiting Predators Decreases Thrips Densities and Above‐Ground Plant Damage

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
We studied predatory soil mites that control the thrips Frankliniella occidentalis. Thrips densities were significantly reduced by the predator Cosmolaelaps sabelisi. It presumably feeds on prepupae and pupae in the soil and on larvae aboveground.

Potential of the Predatory Mites Gamasellodes lavafesii (Mesostigmata: Ascidae) and Cosmolaelaps mediocuspis (Mesostigmata: Laelapidae) on Different Soil Pests/Parasites and Alternative Prey for Large‐Scale Rearing

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, Volume 150, Issue 5, Page 562-572, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Many species of Mesostigmata soil mites have potential as biological control agents of pests/parasites. This study evaluated the predation potential of two of these species, Gamasellodes lavafesii (Ascidae) and Cosmolaelaps mediocuspis (Laelapidae).

Effect of coupled reduced irrigation and nitrogen fertilizer on soil mite community composition in a wheat field

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 9, Issue 19, Page 11367-11378, October 2019., 2019
Moderate reductions of IR and N fertilizer may not decrease crop production or threaten to soil organism community and diversity. On the contrary, it will benefit to decrease agricultural inputs and maintain the sustainable development of agriculture.
