BIEN: A biodiversity informatics ecosystem advancing open and reproducible workflows for plant observation, plot and trait data

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract The rapid expansion of biodiversity data presents new opportunities to understand and forecast biosphere dynamics. However, disparate and dispersed data, taxonomic and geographic inconsistencies, pervasive quality issues, and a lack of reproducable workflows hinder synthesis, introduce biases and limit accurate assessment of biodiversity ...

Lyman-alpha Emitters During the Early Stages of Reionization

open access: yes, 2008
We investigate the potential of exploiting Lya Emitters (LAEs) to constrain the volume-weighted mean neutral hydrogen fraction of the IGM, x_H, at high redshifts (specifically z~9).

Substructure within the SSA22 protocluster at $z\approx3.09$ [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We present the results of a densely sampled spectroscopic survey of the SSA22 protocluster at $z\approx 3.09$. Our sample with Keck/LRIS spectroscopy includes 106 Ly$\alpha$ Emitters (LAEs) and 40 Lyman Break Galaxies (LBGs) at $z=3.05-3.12$.

Adapting to Change: The Dynamic Crop Production Systems of Smallholder Farmers in the PNG Highlands

open access: yesAsia Pacific Viewpoint, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Smallholder sweet potato farmers in Papua New Guinea's Eastern Highlands Province (EHP) face challenges as they navigate social, economic, demographic, and environmental change. While they routinely adapt to weather variability and shifting markets, population growth is placing additional strain on an already finely balanced farming system ...

Testing Lyα Emitters and Lyman-break Galaxies as Tracers of Large-scale Structures at High Redshifts

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We test whether Lyα emitters (LAEs) and Lyman-break galaxies (LBGs) can be good tracers of high- z large-scale structures, using the Horizon Run 5 cosmological hydrodynamical simulation.

Recent Trends on Liquid Air Energy Storage: A Bibliometric Analysis

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
The increasing penetration of renewable energy has led electrical energy storage systems to have a key role in balancing and increasing the efficiency of the grid.

Lyman Alpha Emitter Evolution in the Reionization Epoch [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Combining cosmological SPH simulations with a previously developed Lyman Alpha production/transmission model and the Early Reionization Model (ERM, reionization ends at redshift z~7), we obtain Lyman Alpha and UV Luminosity Functions (LFs) for Lyman ...

The Effects of Information Technologies on the Bankruptcy Decision

open access: yesFinancial Management, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Exploiting the staggered adoptions of electronic systems across 70 bankruptcy courts in the United States, I investigate the impacts of digital transformation on bankruptcy behavior. The digital transformation in bankruptcy courts significantly lowered the cost of filing by enabling debtors to file for bankruptcy online, yet empirical tests ...

Isolated in the highlands, found in the museum: A new species of Characidium (Crenuchidae) from a Bolivian National Park, with a CT scan revealing features

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract A new species of Characidium is described from a small, isolated river in the highland areas of Noel Kempff Mercado National Park, Bolivia. The new taxon can be diagnosed by the presence of a relatively broad and conspicuous dark midlateral stripe extending from the tip of snout to the base of the caudal fin, markedly darker than the vertical ...

Quasar Negative Feedback to Surrounding Galaxies Probed with Lyα Emitters and Continuum-selected Galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
We report on the statistical analysis of quasar photoevaporation at z  ∼ 2.2 by comparing the density of surrounding Ly α emitters (LAEs) and continuum-selected galaxies, based on the imaging data of the Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) Subaru Strategic Program ...
