Mapping skills between symbols and quantities in preschoolers: The role of finger patterns

open access: yesDevelopmental Science, Volume 27, Issue 5, September 2024.
Abstract Mapping skills between different codes to represent numerical information, such as number symbols (i.e., verbal number words and written digits) and non‐symbolic quantities, are important in the development of the concept of number. The aim of the current study is to investigate children's mapping skills by incorporating another numerical code

Coevolution of phyllosilicate, carbon, sulfide, and apatite in Ryugu's parent body

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, Volume 59, Issue 8, Page 2073-2096, August 2024.
Abstract We analyzed an asteroid Ryugu sample returned to Earth by JAXA's Hayabusa2 mission using nanoIR, SEM, and TEM microscopy. We identified multiple distinct carbon reservoirs within the phyllosilicate matrix and demonstrate infrared spectral affinities for some of the carbon to insoluble organic matter (IOM).

Lower resting state functional connectivity partially mediates adverse effects of prenatal alcohol exposure on arithmetic performance in children

open access: yesAlcohol, Clinical and Experimental Research, Volume 48, Issue 6, Page 1050-1062, June 2024.
Optimal cognitive performance relies on efficient co‐activation, termed functional connectivity, of spatially distinct brain regions. We investigated whether prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) alters whole‐brain resting‐state functional connectivity (RSFC) of 5 seeds located in parietal regions involved in number processing.

The intestinal delivery systems of ferulic acid: Absorption, metabolism, influencing factors, and potential applications

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 5, Issue 3, Page 1126-1144, May 2024.
This paper focuses on the recent developments in ferulic acid‐based intestinal delivery systems. It expatiates the absorption and metabolism of various forms of ferulic acid in the gastrointestinal tract, the biological effects of ferulic acid on intestinal health, the challenges of using ferulic acid in practical applications, and the materials used ...

Survivors of infant atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumors present with severely impaired cognitive functions especially for fluid intelligence and visual processing: data from the German brain tumor studies

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, Volume 71, Issue 5, May 2024.
Abstract Background The contribution of tumor type, multimodal treatment, and other patient‐related factors upon long‐term cognitive sequelae in infant brain tumor survivors remains undefined. We add our retrospective analysis of neuropsychological and quality of survival (QoS) outcome data of survivors of atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumors (ATRT) and ...
