Are Swift Long-Lag Gamma-Ray Bursts in the Local Supercluster? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A sample of 18 long-lag (tau_{lag} > 1 s) Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) has been drawn from our catalog of all Swift long GRBs. Four different tests are done on this sample to test the prediction that a large fraction of long-lag GRBs are from our Local ...

Weather and mortality: a 10 year retrospective analysis of the Nouna Health and Demographic Surveillance System, Burkina Faso [PDF]

open access: yesGlobal Health Action, 2012
Background: A growing body of evidence points to the emission of greenhouse gases from human activity as a key factor in climate change. This in turn affects human health and wellbeing through consequential changes in weather extremes. At present, little

Acquiring a new second language contrast: an analysis of the English laryngeal system of native speakers of Dutch [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This study examines the acquisition of the English laryngeal system by native speakers of (Belgian) Dutch. Both languages have a two-way laryngeal system, but while Dutch contrasts prevoiced with short-lag stops, English has a contrast between short-lag ...

”Lagen”: ett användbart fokus för religionsinkluderande exphil?

open access: yesNorsk Filosofisk Tidsskrift, 2022

On the phase-lag heat equation with spatial dependent lags

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications, 2017
In this paper we investigate several qualitative properties of the solutions of the dual-phase-lag heat equation and the three-phase-lag heat equation. In the first case we assume that the parameter tTtT depends on the spatial position. We prove that when 2tT-tq2tT-tq is strictly positive the solutions are exponentially stable.

Fast Ensemble Smoothing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Smoothing is essential to many oceanographic, meteorological and hydrological applications. The interval smoothing problem updates all desired states within a time interval using all available observations.

Explanatory Power of Human and Environmental Pressures on the Fish Community of the Grand Bank before and after the Biomass Collapse

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2018
Ecosystem based fisheries management will benefit from assessment of how various pressures affect the fish community, including delayed responses. The objective of this study was to identify which pressures are most directly related to changes in the ...

Quaternion algebras with the same subfields [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
G. Prasad and A. Rapinchuk asked if two quaternion division F -algebras that have the same subfields are necessarily isomorphic. The answer is known to be "no" for some very large fields. We prove that the answer is "yes" if F is an extension of a global

The effects of hemodynamic lag on functional connectivity and behavior after stroke [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Stroke disrupts the brain's vascular supply, not only within but also outside areas of infarction. We investigated temporal delays (lag) in resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging signals in 130 stroke patients scanned two weeks, three months
