Shallow lakes are one of the most abundant lake type in the world. During the last decades, many of these lakes have shifted from a clear to a turbid state as a consequence of cultural eutrophication. This is the case of Albufera de Valencia , a lake that shifted to turbid state in the beginning of the 1970s.

Ecología de los lagos someros en la zona mediterránea. Importancia de los productores primarios.
The present work studies the ecology of primary producers in some Spanish shallow Mediterranean lakes. The results from two in situ mesocosms experiments with additions of different nutrient concentrations and planktivorous fish densities, together with those on the ecology of the Albufera Lake, concluded that: 1) Nutrient diversion in the Albufera ...

In central Argentina the alternation of cycles of rainfall above or below the historic mean is frequent; so, many saline lakes can dry or fill in a short time. As in La Pampa most of the studies on these lakes were limited to annual cycles, the information about variations under different climatic conditions is scarce.

The lacustrine system was closely related to alluvial systems spreading from the margins to the centre of the basin. The periods with important surge dynamics in the lacustrine area caused the reworking of the materials deposited in the ...
