May I pick your brain? Local minds as living cadastres in a Portuguese eleventh‐century lawsuit

open access: yesEarly Medieval Europe, EarlyView.
In the context of a dispute with the monastery of Lorvão, in the late eleventh century, the monks of Vacariça, near Coimbra (modern Portugal), carried out a field enquiry in the village of Recardães. This was part of a failed attempt to repossess a number of land plots that they claimed were theirs, but had lost control of.

The influence of a cooling water system on waterbird habitat use in a coastal environment

open access: yesIbis, EarlyView.
This study investigated the impact of a cooling water system at a nuclear power plant in northern Europe on coastal waterbird habitat use. In winter, the cooling water system provided preferential areas for waterbirds with warm productive waters, and, more importantly, with ice‐free areas.

Flexible Contract, Flexible Morale? Microcredit Design and Repayment Discipline

open access: yesInternational Economic Review, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Flexible repayment benefits borrowers, but practitioners fear increased moral hazard. Investigating their concerns requires disentangling repayment choices from repayment capacity, which is typically infeasible in field studies. We use a lab‐in‐the‐field experiment with 645 microcredit borrowers to cleanly identify the effect of repayment ...

Initial Pre‐Clinical Evaluation of the Augmented Ultra‐Low Temperature Cryoablation Catheter for Ventricular Ablations

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Ultra‐low Temperature Cryoablation (ULTC) using nitrogen cryogen near its boiling temperature of −196°C is a novel cardiac ablation modality capable of producing titratable lesions with depth exceeding 10 mm and has been recently introduced for catheter treatment of drug‐refractory ventricular tachycardia (VT). The ablative action

Ontogeny of escape response and body shape in threespine stickleback (Gasterosteus aculeatus L.)

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Escape responses in fishes provide insight into accelerative motions and behavioural response times of these animals, linking numerous fitness‐related traits. We sought to connect escape response performance to genotype and phenotype across ontogenetic stages within a single population of threespine stickleback (Gasterosteus aculeatus L.) to ...
