ABSTRACT Modern industrial demand for efficient material handling in confined spaces has driven the need for overhead cranes capable of short‐distance point‐to‐point maneuvers without compromising payload stability. Conventional three‐stage shaper profiles, experiencing acceleration, cruising, and deceleration, become inefficient or infeasible for ...

Turbulence for (and by) amateurs
Series of lectures on statistical turbulence written for amateurs but not experts. Elementary aspects and problems of turbulence in two and three dimensional Navier-Stokes equation are introduced.

The aim of this paper is to describe the obstruction for an almost Lagrangian fibration to be Lagrangian, a problem which is central to the classification of Lagrangian fibrations and, more generally, to understanding the obstructions to carry out surgery of integrable systems, an idea introduced by Zung.

ABSTRACT This study investigates the bearing capacity of tension piles and pile‐soil interaction during loading. Discrepancies between predicted and measured bearing capacities in previous tests motivated the study, where analytical methods showed considerable scatter and uncertainties in design.

Let $X$ be a Calabi--Yau manifold and $Q\subset X$ a closed connected embedded special Lagrangian; closed Lagrangians mean compact Lagrangian submanifolds without boundary. We prove that if the fundamental group $π_1Q$ is abelian then there exists a Weinstein neighbourhood of $Q\subset X$ in which every closed irreducibly immersed special Lagrangian ...

An Exact Method for Reliable Shortest Path Problems With Correlation
ABSTRACT Shortest path problems often arise in contexts where travel times are uncertain. In these settings, reliable paths are often valued more than paths with lower expected travel times. This has led to several variants of reliable shortest path problems (RSPP) that handle travel time reliability differently. We propose an algorithmic framework for

A low‐speed impact (around one meter per second) of a metallic tip on an explosive confined by a thin plate is simulated. The heat due to friction between the tip and the plate and the one due to the deformation of the plate are not transfered to the ignited zone.

The DNA of Calabi–Yau Hypersurfaces
Abstract Genetic Algorithms are implemented for triangulations of four‐dimensional reflexive polytopes, which induce Calabi–Yau threefold hypersurfaces via Batyrev's construction. These algorithms are shown to efficiently optimize physical observables such as axion decay constants or axion–photon couplings in string theory compactifications.

The impact of Arctic sea‐ice loss on winter weather in the British Isles
Arctic sea‐ice loss shifts the North Atlantic jet and storm track equatorward, and results in a more negative North Atlantic Oscillation and more positive East Atlantic and Scandinavian patterns. Strong extratropical cyclones weaken and become less frequent for the British Isles, but there is model disagreement for precipitation, surface winds, and ...
