Lagrangian analysis of sea-ice dynamics in the Arctic Ocean

open access: yesPolar Research, 2016
In this study, we present Lagrangian diagnostics to quantify changes in the dynamical characteristics of the Arctic sea-ice cover from 2006 to 2014. Examined in particular is the evolution in finite-time Lyapunov exponents (FTLEs), which monitor the rate

From Folding Mechanics to Robotic Function: A Unified Modeling Framework for Compliant Origami

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A geometry‐consistent DDG framework captures compliant origami deformation from rigid‐like folding to soft panel bending. By tuning crease and panel stiffness, bistable snap‐through responses transform into smooth monostable deformation, enabling programmable stability and robot‐scale locomotion.

The Niger River Basin Moisture Sources: A Lagrangian Analysis

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2017
The Niger River basin (NRB) is located in the important climatic region of the African Sahel. In this study we use the Lagrangian tridimensional model FLEXPART v9.0 to identify and characterise the moisture sources for the NRB.

Data‐Driven Discovery of Unconventional Antiferromagnets

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A high‐throughput workflow that combines the physics‐informed pre‐screening, high‐throughput exchange calculations, Luttinger‐Tisza analysis and symmetry classification is established for accurate identification of unconventional antiferromagnets from the broad structural database.

The Use of Mixed Eulerian-Lagrangian Displacement in Geometrically Nonlinear Analysis of Structural System

open access: yesJurnal Teknik Sipil, 2017
The paper deals with the use of mixed Eulerian-Lagrangian displacement in geometrically nonlinear analysis of structural system, in which displacement and deformation are observed from a selected referential configuration, i.e., a configuration once ...

Alternating Shear Force of Respiration Regulates Cell Interactions of Fibroblasts and Macrophages to Promote Soft Tissue Integration of Chest Wall Polyetheretherketone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Given that PEEK chest wall implants induce shear force at the soft tissue‐implant interface due to respiratory motion in the early in vivo post‐implantation stage. We confirmed that this mechanical stimulus triggers the PIEZO1/ITGB1/YAP1 signalling axis in L929 and the STAT6/p‐STAT6 pathway in RAW264.7, which in turn mediates adhesion and migration of ...

Constraint structure of the generalized Proca model in the Lagrangian formalism

open access: yesHeliyon
We introduce a novel Lagrangian approach to analyze the dynamical structure of the generalized Proca theory (GP). This method incorporates the A-Z constraint structure of the model within the Lagrangian formalism, providing a precise determination of the

Twistor formulation of a massive particle with rigidity

open access: yesNuclear Physics B, 2018
A massive rigid particle model in (3+1) dimensions is reformulated in terms of twistors. Beginning with a first-order Lagrangian, we establish a twistor representation of the Lagrangian for a massive particle with rigidity.

A simple kinematic model for the Lagrangian description of relevant nonlinear processes in the stratospheric polar vortex [PDF]

open access: yesNonlinear Processes in Geophysics, 2017
In this work, we study the Lagrangian footprint of the planetary waves present in the Southern Hemisphere stratosphere during the exceptional sudden Stratospheric warming event that took place during September 2002.

Low‐Power Control Of Resistance Switching Transitions in First‐Order Memristors

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Joule losses are a serious concern in modern integrated circuit design. In this regard, minimizing the energy necessary for programming memristors should be handled with care. This manuscript presents an optimal control framework, allowing to derive energy‐efficient programming voltage protocols for resistance switching devices. Following this approach,
