Spectral Parameter Power Series for Zakharov‐Shabat Direct and Inverse Scattering Problems

open access: yesMathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We study the direct and inverse scattering problems for the Zakharov‐Shabat system. Representations for the Jost solutions are obtained in the form of the power series in terms of a transformed spectral parameter. In terms of that parameter, the Jost solutions are convergent power series in the unit disk.

The axiomatization of linear algebra: 1875-1940 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Modern linear algebra is based on vector spaces, or more generally, on modules. The abstract notion of vector space was first isolated by Peano (1888) in geometry. It was not influential then, nor when Weyl rediscovered it in 1918.

Uncertainty Quantification for Nonlinear Vibration of Supercritical Drive Shaft With a Dry Friction Damper

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mechanical System Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The supercritical drive shaft is becoming increasingly popular in helicopter transmission system. Dry friction dampers are specially employed to ensure the supercritical shafts crossing the critical speed safely. Due to design tolerances, manufacturing errors and time‐varying factors, the parameters of the damper are inherently uncertain ...

An improved Šiljak's algorithm for solving polynomial equations converges quadratically to multiple zeros [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Šiljak's method provides a globally convergent algorithm for inclusion of polynomial zeros. The solution procedure is formulated as a minimization process of a positive definite function involving the real and imaginary parts of the polynomial.

Revival of traditional agricultural systems – A multidisciplinary on‐farm survey of maize‐bean intercropping reveals unexpected competition effects on beans

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Cereal‐legume intercropping is a promising strategy for sustainable agroecosystems, leveraging the biological complementarities between plant species to reduce the need for inputs while enhancing field biodiversity. Here, we focused on maize‐bean intercropping, which is experiencing a revival in conventional agricultural settings.

Efficient Simulation of Open Quantum Systems on NISQ Trapped‐Ion Hardware

open access: yesAdvanced Quantum Technologies, EarlyView.
Open quantum systems exhibit rich dynamics that can be simulated efficiently on quantum computers, allowing us to learn more about their behavior. This work applies a new method to simulate certain open quantum systems on noisy trapped‐ion quantum hardware.

Properties, mechanisms, and perspectives of ultrafast laser modifications in silicate glass volume

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Glass Science, EarlyView.
Abstract Ultrafast laser irradiation of glass enables highly localized structural transformations within the material's bulk, unlocking diverse applications in photonics, data storage, and microfabrication. Here, we provide a concise yet comprehensive overview of the main types of femtosecond laser‐induced modifications in silica‐based glasses (Types I,
