Accelerated Glacier Area Loss and Extinction of Small Glaciers in the Bhutanese Himalaya over the Past Five Decades

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Glacier inventories are critical for monitoring glacier response to climate change, providing constraints for glacier modeling studies and for assessing the impacts of glacier retreat on ecosystems and human societies. In the Bhutanese Himalaya, an up-to-

High-resolution modelling of the seasonal evolution of surface water storage on the Greenland Ice Sheet [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Seasonal meltwater lakes on the Greenland Ice Sheet form when surface runoff is temporarily trapped in surface topographic depressions. The development of such lakes affects both the surface energy balance and dynamics of the ice sheet.

Microbial mediation and climatic control on dolomite precipitation in a hypersaline lake: Insights from Salinas Lake, southern Iberia

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, Volume 12, Issue 1, February 2026.
The cyclical nature of aridity and humidity led to the alternating deposition of dolomite‐rich and calcite‐rich sediments. During arid phases, the lake hydrology and growth of microbial mats under evaporative and hypersaline environment favors the precipitation of dolomite.

Surface Velocity and Dynamics of the Southern Patagonian Icefield Using Feature and Speckle Tracking Methods on Sentinel-1 SAR Images During 2019–2020

open access: yesRemote Sensing
With an area of 13,000 km2 and more than 60 outlet glaciers (tidewater or lake-terminating), the Southern Patagonian Icefield (SPI) stores a substantial volume of freshwater, and its accelerating melt contributes to global sea level rise.

Glacier mass balance over the central Nyainqentanglha Range during recent decades derived from remote-sensing data

open access: yesJournal of Glaciology, 2019
To obtain information on changes in glacier mass balance in the central Nyainqentanglha Range, a comprehensive study was carried out based on digital-elevation models derived from the 1968 topographic maps, the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission DEM (2000)

Seasonal hydrological and suspended sediment transport dynamics in proglacial streams, James Ross Island, Antarctica [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Rapid warming of the Antarctic Peninsula is producing accelerated glacier mass loss and can be expected to have significant impacts on meltwater runoff regimes and proglacial fluvial activity.

Heterogeneous Influence of Glacier Morphology on the Mass Balance Variability in High Mountain Asia

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Earth Surface, 2019
We investigate the control of the morphological variables on the 2000–2016 glacier‐wide mass balances of 6,470 individual glaciers of High Mountain Asia. We separate the data set into 12 regions assumed to be climatically homogeneous.

Characterization and Phylogenomic Implications of the Mitochondrial Genome of Rhithrogena elasmaris (Ephemeroptera: Heptageniidae)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
This study presents the first complete mitochondrial genome of Rhithrogena elasmaris, revealing its structural features and codon usage patterns. Comparative analysis with 29 other Heptageniidae species showed high genetic diversity and strong purifying selection across protein‐coding genes.

Controls on rapid supraglacial lake drainage in West Greenland: An Exploratory Data Analysis approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The controls on rapid surface lake drainage on the Greenland ice sheet (GrIS) remain uncertain, making it challenging to incorporate lake drainage into models of GrIS hydrology, and so to determine the ice-dynamic impact of meltwater reaching the ice ...

Palaeoglacier reconstruction and dynamics of Cordillera Vilcanota in the tropical high Peruvian Andes

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 51, Issue 2, February 2026.
We provide a geomorphological analysis of Cordillera Vilcanota and use morphostratigraphic principles to reconstruct palaeo icefield extent and palaeoglacier readvances, likely during the Antarctic Cold Reversal and Younger Dryas. We find evidence of temperate and polythermal ice margins, with limited glaciofluvial landform generation.
