Inter-Decadal Dynamics of Glacier Area and Supra-glacial Lakes Over Hispar Glacier, Western Karakoram

open access: yesInternational Journal of Economic and Environment Geology, 2021
Glaciers of the central Karakorum region are the primary source of fresh water and lifeline for downstream inhabitants but changing climatic conditions put serious impacts on glaciers which cause rapid ablation and the creation of glacial lakes.

The ecology of constructed ponds on the lower Waikato River floodplain: implications for waterfowl management [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Numerous ponds have been constructed in recent years on the lower Waikato River floodplain yet many waterfowl populations are in decline. Overseas research highlights the importance of constructed ponds for waterfowl populations; however, no ...

Cell surface CD11c as a neutrophil aging marker molecule

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cell surface CD11chi neutrophils were more aged and had better phagocytic function than CD11c−/lo neutrophils. Transcriptomic analysis of CD11chi neutrophils and CD11c−/lo neutrophils in pediatric population showed that the most difference was seen in infants.

Selective elimination of quiescent cancer cells by dequalinium chloride via ROS‐mediated ferroptosis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Dequalinium chloride (DQ) selectively eliminates quiescent cancer cells (QCCs) by amplifying mitochondrial ROS. QCCs exhibit elevated basal ROS and limited redox‐buffering capacity, making them vulnerable to further ROS increases. DQ‐induced ROS exceeds the tolerance threshold, triggering lipid peroxidation and ferroptosis, whereas proliferating cells ...

Development of Supraglacial Ponds in the Everest Region, Nepal, between 1989 and 2018

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2019
Several supraglacial ponds are developing and increasing in size and number in the Himalayan region. They are the precursors of large glacial lakes and may become potential for glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs).

Emerging global role of small lakes and ponds: little things mean a lot

open access: yesLimnetica, 2010
Emerging global role of small lakes and ponds: little things mean a lot Until recently, small continental waters have been completely ignored in virtually all global processes and cycles.

Characterization of the bacterioplankton communities in the melt-water ponds of Bratina Island, Victoria Land, Antarctica [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Antarctic ecosystems (such as the ponds by Bratina Island, Antarctica) provide an excellent opportunity to examine organisms that can live in one of the most extreme and geochemically varied environments in the world.

The Comprehensive Live Cell‐Based Cytotoxicity Assay for Monitoring Disease Activity and Guiding Rescue Therapy in Acute Attacks of NMOSD

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) is a devastating neurological disease that lacks serological biomarkers that can accurately reflect disease activity. We established a live cell‐based assay (LCBA) using serum with endogenous complement to quantify the overall cytotoxicity, offering a novel functional tool for monitoring

Case Studies Demonstrate That Common Carp Can Be Sustainably Reduced by Exploiting Source-Sink Dynamics in Midwestern Lakes

open access: yesFishes, 2020
The common carp has been highly problematic in North American ecosystems since its introduction over a century ago. In many watersheds, its abundance appears to be driven by source-sink dynamics in which carp reproduce successfully in peripheral ponds ...
