ENROFLOXACIN-INDUCED RETINOPATHY IN A GUANACO (LAMA GUANICOE)
Journal of Zoo and Wildlife Medicine, 2006A 4-yr-old male guanaco (Lama guanicoe) in a multispecies exhibit presented with a laceration in the axillary region. The laceration was surgically repaired. Medical treatment was initiated with penicillin G procaine and benzathine (1920 IU/kg, i.m., s.i.d. for 14 days), and enrofloxacin (2.4 mg/kg, i.m., s.i.d. for 14 days).

Tropical Animal Health and Production, 2011
The breeding of wild animals for commercial purposes is becoming more frequent nowadays. This situation has led to an increase in contact rates between wild and domestic animals, with subsequent reciprocal transmission of parasites. In this study, we characterized the gastrointestinal and blood parasites of a group of 15 semi-captive guanacos (Lama ...

Are there different vigilance strategies between types of social units in Lama guanicoe?
Group vigilance is a cooperative behaviour in social species that reduces individual risk of predation. Lama guanicoe is a social species of camelid performing cooperative vigilance, but little is known about the vigilance behaviour of different social units. We analysed the vigilance behaviour in different types of social units of L.

Determination of age and sex on dental pieces of Lama guanicoe: A methodological approach
Archaeozoological studies in central Tierra del Fuego are limited by the possibilities of bone conservation. This region is characterized by the development of the sub-Antarctic forest, where survival of organic material is very low, due to factors such as the acidity produced by leaves decomposition, humidity, roots action, ground freezing, etc.

Systemic candidosis in a guanaco ( Lama guanicoe )
Veterinary Record, 2009Candida species are ubiquitous dimorphic fungi that normally inhabit the digestive, upper respiratory and urogenital tracts of various warm-blooded animals. They are also the aetiological agent of candidosis, which is usually caused by Candida albicans and generally occurs in immunocompromised ...

Thermal conductance of guanaco (Lama guanicoe) pelage
Journal of Thermal Biology, 2005Abstract 1. Guarded hot plate technique was used to measure thermal conductance of winter, summer and sheared pelts of Lama guanicoe. 2. Mean thermal conductance of winter and summer pelage was 1.64 W/m2 °C and 1.79 W/m2 °C, respectively. 3. Mean heat loss in natural pelage, in free convection conditions was 1.74 W/m2 °C and 2.3 W/m2 °C in sheared ...
