Daylight effect on melatonin secretion in adult female guanacos (Lama guanicoe)

Reproduction in Domestic Animals, 2017
ContentsThe wild South American camelids developed a strategy of seasonal reproduction during spring and summer with singleton birth. The photoperiod is one of the factors that may modulate this seasonality where light would be translated into a hormonal signal.

Molecular characterization of the first isolation of rotavirus in guanacos (Lama guanicoe)

Archives of Virology, 2004
Rotaviruses (RVs) are a major cause of neonatal diarrhoea in humans and numerous animal species. We report G-type, P-type and phylogenetic analysis of two RV strains isolated from newborn guanacos (Lama guanicoe) with acute diarrhoea in Argentina. Isolates were group A G8 RV.

Finding of polydactyly in a free-ranging guanaco (Lama guanicoe)

Small Ruminant Research, 2008
Polydactylism, a genetic defect characterized by partial or complete duplication of the digit, has been described in a wide range of vertebrates. Among ungulates, polydactyly appears to be relatively common in domestic camelids, with reports in dromedary camels (Camelus dromedarius), llama (Lama glama) and alpaca (Vicugna pacos). However, in wild South

Non-genetic factors affecting morphometric and fleece traits in guanaco (Lama guanicoe guanicoe) populations from Argentinean Patagonia

Small Ruminant Research, 2010
Abstract Lama guanicoe guanicoe is the guanaco subspecies located in the Argentinean Patagonia. It is of particular interest to characterize these populations as it is a native species and a high quality fibre production genetical resource. With the aim of describing phenotipically Lama guanicoe guanicoe populations, 262 specimens were sampled.

Endocrine changes during pregnancy, parturition and post-partum in guanacos (Lama guanicoe)

Animal Reproduction Science, 2009
Plasma concentrations of progesterone (P4), estradiol-17beta (E2), estrone (E1) and estrone sulfate (E1S) were measured during gestation in eight guanacos kept in captivity. Gestational length was 346.1+/-9.8 days. P4 plasma concentrations increased after ovulation and remained elevated until parturition.

MINIMALLY INVASIVE METATARSAL FRACTURE REPAIR WITH LOCKING PLATES IN A GUANACO (LAMA GUANICOE)

Journal of Zoo and Wildlife Medicine, 2014
An open grade I transverse diaphyseal fracture of the metatarsal bone in a 5-yr-old female guanaco (Lama guanicoe) was successfully stabilized with a locking plate system, which is a minimally invasive approach. A conical coupling screw-plate locking system with 3.0-mm-thick plates and 3.5-mm locking head screws was applied, after closed and indirect ...

Sarcocystis sp. in guanaco (Lama guanicoe) and effect of temperature on its viability

Veterinary Parasitology, 1984
The biology of the Sarcocystis sp. that infect guanacoes was studied by feeding the infected meat to dogs, cats, rats and mice. Tissues from guanaco, heavily infected with macrocysts, were fed to these animals and their faeces collected daily and examined for the presence or absence of sporocysts.

Health evaluation of free-ranging guanaco (Lama guanicoe).

Journal of zoo and wildlife medicine : official publication of the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians, 1998
Twenty free-ranging guanaco (Lama guanicoe) in Chubut Province, Argentina, were immobilized for health evaluations. All but two animals appeared to be in good condition. Hematology, serum chemistry, and vitamin and mineral levels were measured, and feces were evaluated for parasites.

Hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis response to photoperiod changes in female guanacos (Lama guanicoe)

General and Comparative Endocrinology
The guanaco, a wild South American camelid, is renowned for its remarkable resilience to extreme conditions. Despite this, little is known about how reproductive hormones in female camelids are influenced during their seasonal breeding period, which occurs during long photoperiod. To explore this, the study investigated the response of the hypothalamic-
