The History of the Slotted Natural-Laminar-Flow Airfoil for Improved Fuel Efficiency

open access: yesAerospace
It is well established that increasing vehicle efficiency enables the achievement of N + 3 sustainable air travel goals. To this end, the integration of a slotted natural-laminar-flow airfoil with a transonic, truss-based commercial wing configuration is

Loss of proton‐sensing GPR4 reduces tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
G protein‐coupled receptor 4 (GPR4) is a pH‐sensing receptor activated by acidic pH. GPR4 expression is increased in patients with inflammatory bowel disease who are at high risk of developing colorectal cancer. In mouse models, loss of GPR4 attenuated tumor progression. This correlated with increased IL2 and natural killer cell activity.

Visualizing the spatiotemporal map of Rac activation in bovine aortic endothelial cells under laminar and disturbed flows. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Disturbed flow can eliminate the alignment of endothelial cells in the direction of laminar flow, and significantly impacts on atherosclerosis in collateral arteries near the bifurcation and high curvature regions. While shear stress induced Rac polarity

Cytomegalovirus infection is common in prostate cancer and antiviral therapies inhibit progression in disease models

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Human cytomegalovirus infection is common in normal prostate epithelium, prostate tumor tissue, and prostate cancer cell lines. CMV promotes cell survival, proliferation, and androgen receptor signaling. Anti‐CMV pharmaceutical compounds in clinical use inhibited cell expansion in prostate cancer models in vitro and in vivo, motivating investigation ...

On the stationary Navier-Stokes flow with isotropic streamlines in all latitudes on a sphere or a 2D hyperbolic space [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In this paper, we show the existence of real-analytic stationary Navier-Stokes flows with isotropic streamlines in all latitudes in some simply-connected flow region on a rotating round sphere.

Coherent synchrotron radiation for laminar flows [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics - Accelerators and Beams, 2006
We investigate the effect of shear in the flow of charged particle equilibria that are unstable to the Coherent Synchrotron Radiation (CSR) instability. Shear may act to quench this instability because it acts to limit the size of the region with a fixed phase relation between emitters.

Bioengineering facets of the tumor microenvironment in 3D tumor models: insights into cellular, biophysical and biochemical interactions

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The tumor microenvironment is a dynamic, multifaceted complex system of interdependent cellular, biochemical, and biophysical components. Three‐dimensional in vitro models of the tumor microenvironment enable a better understanding of these interactions and their impact on cancer progression and therapeutic resistance.
