A New Generation of Metal Halide Lamps

Journal of the Illuminating Engineering Society, 1975
The continuing study of high-intensity discharge (HID) light sources has focussed attention on the convective gas flows within the arc tube. The arc tube wall temperature as affected by the transport gases has also been investigated. The knowledge and data obtained from these observations yield concepts leading to the development of new light sources ...

Nanosecond pulse generators for microdischarge excimer lamps

Digest of Technical Papers. PPC-2003. 14th IEEE International Pulsed Power Conference (IEEE Cat. No.03CH37472), 2004
Pulsed electron heating causes an increase in electron temperature with negligible gas heating, as long as the pulse duration is comparable to or less than the relaxation time of the electrons in the discharge plasma. For atmospheric pressure plasmas this is tens of ns.

Mechanisms of sound generation during flash lamp operation

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2005
Changes in sound pressure wave forms by operating flash lamps were studied. In the experiments, two types of lamp were prepared, one of which emitted vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) light and the other did not. We investigated the position of the sound pressure origination, the frequency component, and the relation between the degree of sound pressure and the

"New lamps for old!" (generalized multiple-valued neurons)

Proceedings 1999 29th IEEE International Symposium on Multiple-Valued Logic (Cat. No.99CB36329), 2003
Contributions to multiple-valued threshold logic in the seventies are reviewed at the light of developments in the area of artificial neural networks. It is shown that it is possible to adapt methods of design of feedforward neural networks to generate networks of multiple-valued neurons to realize any multiple-valued function.

General Characteristics of High-Frequency Electrodeless Spectral Lamps

1998
At least two kinds of discharges have been known since the 1930s. Following [13] they were named E- and H-discharges. As mentioned in the introduction, the E-discharge is excited in the antinodes of the electric field, and the H-discharge in the antinodes of the magnetic field.
