Two new species of coastal Atyphella Olliff (Lampyridae: Luciolinae)
Zootaxa, 2020Additional work on the islands of Vanuatu has improved our understanding of the actual diversity of South Pacific coastal fireflies. Prior to recent fieldwork in Vanuatu, the only known lampyrid from Vanuatu was Atyphella aphrogeneia (Ballantyne), a coastal species also found in Papua New Guinea.

Revision of the subfamily Ototretinae (Coleoptera: Lampyridae)
Zoologischer Anzeiger - A Journal of Comparative Zoology, 2013Abstract The Ototretinae are revised using comparative morphology of adults. All recognized genus-group taxa are redescribed and illustrated and a key to genera is provided. The concept of Ototretinae within Lampyridae is clarified and the taxonomic placement with the phylogenetic relationships of several taxa formerly associated as cantharoids is ...

Tuning of photoreceptor spectral sensitivity in fireflies (Coleoptera: Lampyridae)
Journal of Comparative Physiology A: Sensory, Neural, and Behavioral Physiology, 2000Sexual communication between male and female fireflies involves the visual detection of species-specific bioluminescent signals. Firefly species vary spectrally in both their emitted light and in the sensitivity of the eye, depending on the time when each is active.

The type species of Luciola Laporte, 1833 (Coleoptera, Lampyridae, Luciolinae)
ZoosystemaLiterature regarding the firefly genus Luciola Laporte, 1833 is investigated to determine the correct type species for this diverse and taxonomically important genus. Evidence suggests that the type species subsequently designated by Desmarest (1860) was
