Genomic data support the definition of a new elateroid family, Badmaateridae fam. nov., with Badmaater chilensis gen. nov. sp. nov. as the only representative. Badmaateridae is sister to an extensive clade containing fireflies, soldier beetles, net‐winged beetles and click beetles.

This is the first phylogenomic study of Omethidae using genome skimming, sampling representatives of all subfamilies to resolve long‐standing conflicts between morphology‐ and multigene‐based hypotheses. Phylogenomic analyses recovered Omethidae sister to Artematopodidae and strongly support Telegeusinae as a subfamily of Omethidae, rejecting its ...

Effects of Collection Cup Preservative on Flight Intercept Trap Performance for Forest Insects
Flight intercept traps are important tools for the monitoring and surveillance of forest Coleoptera. We investigated the comparative efficacy of three wet (saturated saltwater, propylene glycol, and soapy water) and one dry (dichlorvos strip) collection cup treatments on the capture of forest insects.

The noctuid pest western bean cutworm (Striacosta albicosta) lays its eggs in corn fields over the season. Various generalist predators consume the eggs and larvae of this pest. To improve integrated pest management of S. albicosta, this study identified key trophic interactions between S. albicosta and predatory arthropods in corn fields.

Using an observational approach in field and laboratory settings we investigated male glow‐worms' approach to females to determine whether their behaviour is consistent with scramble competition. Our results show that males combine flying and walking, favouring the latter during the final stage of their approach to females.

The Role of Pigments in Light Color Variation of the Firefly Photinus pyralis
We tested the novel hypothesis that genes encoding enzymes and transporters in pigment pathways (“pigment genes”) produce pigments in the firefly light organ that filter bioluminescent light, tuning the color of emitted light signals to match visual sensitivity. We detected the gene expression of 46 ommochrome and pterin pigment genes in P.

This mini‐review explores the advancement of benzothiazole (BTz)‐ and benzoxazole (BOz)‐based boron‐complexed dyes, extending the capabilities of BODIPY structures through the incorporation of electron‐deficient ligands. These materials drive innovations in light emitting diodes (LEDs), bioimaging, and mechanochromic luminescence (MCL), addressing ...
