Non-normal Lanczos methods for quantum scattering

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2008
This article presents a new complex absorbing potential (CAP) block Lanczos method for computing scattering eigenfunctions and reaction probabilities. The method reduces the problem of computing energy eigenfunctions to solving two energy dependent systems of equations.

Algorithmic Fault Tolerance Using the Lanczos Method

SIAM Journal on Matrix Analysis and Applications, 1992
The problem of algorithm-based fault tolerance is considered. It is shown how very general sequences of polynomials can be used to generate the checksums, so as to reduce the chance of numerical overflows. Further it is shown how a clever use of the Lanczos algorithm can be applied in the error location and correction steps, so as to save on the amount

Moment Methods and Lanczos Methods

1980
In contrast to many of the speakers at this conference I am less interested in average properties of nuclei than in detailed spectroscopy. I will try to show, however, that the two are very closely connected and that shell-model calculations may be used to give a great deal of information not normally associated with the shell-model.

On the Generalized Lanczos Trust-Region Method

SIAM Journal on Optimization, 2017
Summary: The so-called trust-region subproblem gets its name in the trust-region method in optimization and also plays a vital role in various other applications. Several numerical algorithms have been proposed in the literature for solving small-to-medium size dense problems as well as for large-scale sparse problems.

Updating fermions with the Lanczos method

Journal of Computational Physics, 1987
The Lanczos method is proposed for the Monte Carlo simulation of the QCD (lattice) vacuum including dynamical fermion loops. It appears that an exact fermion update is feasible on medium-sized lattices with today's vector processors.

A Hermitian Lanczos Method for Normal Matrices

SIAM Journal on Matrix Analysis and Applications, 2002
An algorithm is presented for iteratively solving a linear system \(Nx= b\), with a normal matrix \(N\), with an optional 3-term recurrence by extending the Hermitian Lanczos method to normal matrices. To this end the Toeplitz decomposition of \(N\), defined via \(N= H+iK\) with Hermitian \(H\) and \(K\), is employed. The key is to notice that \(N^{-1}\

Newton-Type Minimization via the Lanczos Method

SIAM Journal on Numerical Analysis, 1984
This paper discusses the use of the linear conjugate-gradient method (developed via the Lanczos method) in the solution of large-scale unconstrained minimization problems. It is shown how the equivalent Lanczos characterization of the linear conjugate-gradient method may be exploited to define a modified Newton method which can be applied to problems ...

Generalized Lanczos method for signal smoothing

ICASSP '86. IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2005
This paper proposes a new signal smoothing method which is applicable to any type of signal. This method is a direct extension of the Lanczos signal smoothing method for the truncated Fourier series. The method coincides with the classical Lanczos method if basis functions of a signal space are trigonometric functions. The proposed method is applied to

Decentralized direction finding using Lanczos method

2014 IEEE 8th Sensor Array and Multichannel Signal Processing Workshop (SAM), 2014
The problem of Direction of Arrival (DoA) estimation using partly calibrated arrays composed of multiple identically oriented subarrays is considered. The subarrays are assumed to possess the shift invariance property which is exploited to achieve decentralized search free DoA estimation based on the ESPRIT method.
