The present chapter discusses an analysis of land cover change based on the enhanced transition matrix, and provides a detailed interpretation of the results of the case study chosen: a protected area in the region of Madrid (central Spain) between 1990 and 2000. The method adopted introduces concepts and indicators to study the statistical information

Remote Sensing of Land Cover and Land Cover Change
2000An extensive literature describing the use of remote sensing for land cover mapping has emerged since the launch of Landsat-1 in 1974. This includes numerous references to applications that purport to detect or measure change. However, many reported studies are either misleading, in that they describe limited environmental mapping exercises as ...

Spatial Land Cover Pattern Analysis
2016In the previous chapters we introduced land cover classifications, fractional cover and time-series analysis. All these approaches aimed to extract ecological relevant information based on the spectral signal. However differentiating a tree plantation (spatially regularly planted trees of same species, age, height) from a natural forest based on the ...

Land-cover classification is an important application area of satellite remote sensing. However, deriving thematic map from satellite imagery through classification approaches is not a straightforward task, especially from high-resolution satellite imagery.

The method of land cover accounting described in this paper has been applied in the Czech Republic. Land cover data have been obtained from the CORINE Land Cover national database produced in the early 1990s. Similarly, satellite images from the late 1970s were used to get another database for change detection.

In this chapter, land-cover change based on the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) derived from the NOAA AVHRR Global Vegetation Index (GVI) for the Lhasa area at the central Tibetan Plateau from 1985 to 1999 is presented, and its sensitivity to climate conditions is discussed, followed by analysis on vegetation phenologies and dynamics ...

Estimation of the future land cover using Corine Land Cover data Estimation of the future land cover
2021In this study, linear and polynomial regression functions were applied to the Corine Land Cover (CLC) data to quantitatively estimate the future land cover for three different cities of Turkey, Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir. For the related cities, the CLC data sets recorded for every 6 years between the years 2000-2018 were individually obtained from ...
