Ban Glyphosate—Does It Affect the Swedish Farmers' Willingness to Grow Cover Crops?
ABSTRACT The cultivation of cover crops is one of the new Eco‐scheme practices introduced in Sweden. This study examines how the design of policy attributes of these schemes influences farmers' willingness to grow cover crops on arable land, with particular focus on the potential impact of a glyphosate ban.

Predicting Land Use Change: How Much Does Transportation Matter? [PDF]
In this paper, we propose to measure the extent of the inßuence of transportation systems on land use change. Using a set of high-resolution land use data for the Twin Cities metropolitan region, we estimate logistic regression models of land use change ...

Trends in Land-Use and Land-Cover Change: Key Insights for Managing the Atlantic Forest Transition
Studies on land-use and land-cover change patterns contribute to better informed management decisions for the conservation and restoration of Atlantic Forest fragments and their megabiodiversity. In recent decades, the phenomenon of forest transition has

ABSTRACT In recent decades, agriculture has become increasingly concentrated through horizontal mergers and acquisitions via corporate entities, and policy makers are concerned this will be exacerbated by the aging population of farm operators. To reduce market concentration in agriculture, many states have enacted policies to entice new prospective ...

Discriminant Analysis with Spatial Weights for Urban Land Cover Classification [PDF]
Classifying urban area images is challenging because of the heterogeneous nature of the urban landscape resulting in mixed pixels and classes with highly variable spectral ranges. Approaches using ancillary data, such as knowledge based or expert systems,

Land Cover Dynamics of Devikulam Taluk-Understanding the Past Scenario [PDF]
Monitoring land cover change is the most important step in decision making for local or government agencies. Specially for a forest recovery program, understanding of the past scenario of land cover is very essential.

ABSTRACT Increased frequency of extreme weather events, particularly droughts, threatens grassland farming by destabilizing yields and farms' economic viability. We examine, theoretically and through numerical simulations, how sown plant diversity (natural insurance) influences the attractiveness of indemnity and drought index insurance (formal ...

Unpacking the Farmland Capitalization Effect of Ethanol Establishment
ABSTRACT We unpack the impact of expansions in ethanol production—as measured by proximity to newly constructed ethanol plants and capacity expansions—on farmland values using land transaction data from Kansas in combination with modern causal inference techniques.

Spatial pattern analysis of land cover change trajectories in Tarim Basin, northwest China
This study attempts to develop a methodology to quantify spatial patterns of land cover change using landscape metrics. First, multitemporal land cover types are derived based on a unified land cover classification scheme and from the classification of ...

Crop Insurance Design and On‐Farm Risk Adaptation
ABSTRACT The United States spends billions annually on crop insurance premium subsidies, yet the prevailing distance‐based guarantee design unintentionally rewards risk‐taking by linking subsidies to yield variability. We consider a simple redesign: define guarantees in terms of probability so that coverage reflects a consistent likelihood of indemnity.
