Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

UPDATING LAND INFORMATION SYSTEMS CREATED USING UNCONVENTIONAL APPROACHES

open access: yesAfrican Journal on Land Policy and Geospatial Sciences, 2022
Many are the suggestions on how to develop a new land information system or evaluate how successful is the existing system. However, guidance about how the created system can be kept up to date is shallowly mentioned in the literature while it is the key feature for its sustainability.

Automated remote sensing monitoring of cropland non-agricultural and non-grain conversion at parcel scale in complex environments through multi-source data fusion

open access: yesGeo-spatial Information Science
Changes in cropland use, particularly the transition from agricultural to non-agricultural and non-food crop production, can diversify rural economies but may also pose challenges to regional food security, especially in densely populated and rapidly ...

Spatial and Temporal Variability of Soil Erosion in Northeast China from 2000 to 2020

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2022
Northeast China is a prominent base for commercial grain production nationwide. Soil erosion, a primary cause of land degradation and grain yield decrease, has become an imminent issue and is still not well documented in Northeast China.

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Spatio-Temporal Analysis of Vegetation Dynamics as a Response to Climate Variability and Drought Patterns in the Semiarid Region, Eritrea

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2019
There is a growing concern over change in vegetation dynamics and drought patterns with the increasing climate variability and warming trends in Africa, particularly in the semiarid regions of East Africa. Here, several geospatial techniques and datasets

Evaluation and comparison of light use efficiency models for their sensitivity to the diffuse PAR fraction and aerosol loading in China

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Earth Observations and Geoinformation, 2021
The diffuse photosynthetically active radiation (PARdif) is highly related to the gross primary productivity (GPP) of vegetation and can enhance the photosynthetic rate of shaded leaves. The PARdif is mainly influenced by aerosols on clear sky days.
