Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Spatial optimization for land use allocation: accounting for sustainability concerns [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Land-use allocation has long been an important area of research in regional science. Land-use patterns are fundamental to the functions of the biosphere, creating interactions that have substantial impacts on the environment.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

UPDATING LAND INFORMATION SYSTEMS CREATED USING UNCONVENTIONAL APPROACHES

open access: yesAfrican Journal on Land Policy and Geospatial Sciences, 2022
Many are the suggestions on how to develop a new land information system or evaluate how successful is the existing system. However, guidance about how the created system can be kept up to date is shallowly mentioned in the literature while it is the key feature for its sustainability.

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Automated remote sensing monitoring of cropland non-agricultural and non-grain conversion at parcel scale in complex environments through multi-source data fusion

open access: yesGeo-spatial Information Science
Changes in cropland use, particularly the transition from agricultural to non-agricultural and non-food crop production, can diversify rural economies but may also pose challenges to regional food security, especially in densely populated and rapidly ...

Land Cover Classification from Multi-temporal, Multi-spectral Remotely Sensed Imagery using Patch-Based Recurrent Neural Networks

open access: yes, 2017
Sustainability of the global environment is dependent on the accurate land cover information over large areas. Even with the increased number of satellite systems and sensors acquiring data with improved spectral, spatial, radiometric and temporal ...

Spatial prioritisation of revegetation sites for dryland salinity management: an analytical framework using GIS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
[Abstract]: To address the lack of analytical and modelling techniques in prioritising revegetation sites for dryland salinity management, a case study of the Hodgson Creek catchment in Queensland, Australia, was conducted.

Memory and Resting‐State Connectivity in Acute Transient Global Amnesia: A Case–Control fMRI Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Transient global amnesia (TGA) is a striking model of isolated amnesia. While hippocampal lesions are well described, the network‐level mechanisms and the precise neuropsychological profile remain debated. Our objective was thus to characterize functional and neuropsychological correlates of acute TGA and their ...
