Land subsidence: A global challenge
Science of The Total Environment, 2021This study presents a comprehensive review of the Land subsidence (LS) cases, as a worldwide environmental, geological, and global geohazard concern. Here, 290 case studies around the world mostly conducted in large metropolitan cities (e.g. Bangkok, Beijing, California, Houston, Mexico City, Shanghai, Jakarta, and Tokyo) in 41 countries were collected.

Land subsidence in China occurs in different regions. It is primarily caused by excessive groundwater withdrawal. Other reasons for the subsidence include the oil, warm groundwater withdrawal and the neotectonic movement. The common characteristics of land subsidence in China are slow, accumulative, irreversible, and other unique properties.

Satellite radar measurements of land subsidence
IGARSS '96. 1996 International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2002The potential of satellite borne interferometric measurements for the mapping of slow land subsidence has been investigated. Two test sites, covered by the ERS-1 satellite, were selected in the Netherlands: the provinces of Groningen and Zeeland. In situ measurements on the weather and the actual subsidence were gathered.
