An improved method for accurate calculation of albedos of inhomogeneous land surfaces
International Journal of Remote Sensing, 1994Abstract A model for computing the albedos and BRDF (bidirectional reflectance distribution function) of inhomogeneous land surfaces consisting of two different components has been developed. An empirical equation, based on the model results, for calculating albedos of inhomogeneous land surfaces and avoiding errors caused by shadowing effect was set ...

Narrowband to broadband conversions of land surface albedo: II. Validation
Remote Sensing of Environment, 2003Abstract In the first paper of this series, we developed narrowband to broadband albedo conversion formulae for a series of sensors. These formulae were determined based on extensive radiative transfer simulations under different surface and atmospheric conditions.

Journal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres
AbstractDaily mean albedo, a crucial variable of the earth radiation budget, is significantly affected by the diurnal variation of land surface albedo (DVLSA). The DVLSA typically exhibits asymmetry, thereby affecting the estimation of the daily mean albedo. However, the asymmetry in the DVLSA is generally ignored in daily mean albedo estimation.

The Albedo of Vegetated Land Surfaces: Systems Analysisand Mathematical Modeling
Theoretical and Applied Climatology, 1998The albedo of vegetated land surfaces (surface albedo) is a key factor in climate modeling and in mechanistic accounting of many ecological processes. This paper proposes a testable numerical equation for the analysis and projection of surface albedo. Conceptualized as the manifestation of a canopy elements-determined basic property after modifications

MODELING LAND-SURFACE ALBEDOS FROM VEGETATION CANOPY ARCHITECTURE
Physical Geography, 1991Over the past decade, the climatic impact of changes in terrestrial albedo has been studied using numerous climate models, ranging from simple, one-dimensional energy balance climate models to the more sophisticated, three-dimensional general circulation models of the atmosphere.

Temporal Analysis of Remotely Sensed Land Surface Shortwave Albedo
2016Satellite-derived surface albedo products have offered great opportunities in monitoring surface energy budget. However, existing satellite albedo products may have suffered from data gaps and/or inconsistency caused by cloud contamination, sensor difference, and retrieval algorithm failure, which will lead to the limitations in long-term time series ...

Some results of helicopter measurements of the albedo of different land surfaces
Solar Energy, 1970Abstract Two series of albedo measurements are reported in which observations were made from a helicopter hovering above the surface of eight different types of land cover. One series, above a mixed hardwood forest in East Tennessee, consisted of 20 measurements repeated at three different stages of vegetative development.
