Surface albedo is a fundamental radiative parameter as it controls the Earth’s energy budget and directly affects the Earth’s climate. Satellite observations have long been used to capture the temporal and spatial variations of surface albedo

Background albedo dynamics improve simulated precipitation variability in the Sahel region [PDF]
Using the general circulation model ECHAM5–JSBACH forced by observed sea surface temperatures (SSTs) for the 20th century, we investigate the role of vegetation and land surface albedo dynamics in shaping rainfall variability in the Sahel.

Evaluation of the Surface Energy Balance System (SEBS) applied to ASTER imagery with flux-measurements at the SPARC 2004 site (Barrax, Spain) [PDF]
Accurate quantification of the amount and spatial variation of evapotranspiration is important in a wide range of disciplines. Remote sensing based surface energy balance models have been developed to estimate turbulent surface energy fluxes at different

Fire‐induced shifts in activity patterns of predators and prey in the Brazilian Pantanal
Using camera trap data, we observed that 5 of 6 prey species showed statistically significant changes in temporal activity patterns, while jaguars were the only predator species to adjust activity when comparing pre‐fire and post‐fire periods in an isolated rocky formation in the Pantanal region.

Implementation of a soil albedo scheme in the CABLEv1.4b land surface model and evaluation against MODIS estimates over Australia [PDF]
Land surface albedo, the fraction of incoming solar radiation reflected by the land surface, is a key component of the Earth system. This study evaluates snow-free surface albedo simulations by the Community Atmosphere Biosphere Land Exchange (CABLEv1.4b)

SNOWMIP2: An evaluation of forest snow process simulation [PDF]
The Northern Hemisphere has large areas that are forested and seasonally snow covered. Compared with open areas, forest canopies strongly influence interactions between the atmosphere and snow on the ground by sheltering the snow from wind and solar ...

ABSTRACT Coal remains a major global energy source despite ongoing environmental controversies, particularly, regarding climate change and landscape transformation. This study investigates the spatiotemporal dynamics of land use and land cover (LULC) in the Moatize Coal Basin (MCB), Mozambique, between 1990 and 2024, with a specific focus on land ...

Changing Regional Land Surface Albedos Alter the Planetary Albedo During the Twenty‐First Century
The top‐of‐atmosphere (TOA) albedo controls the amount of solar energy absorbed by Earth and is influenced by the reflectivity of both the atmosphere and surface.
