Autonomous Navigation of Bio‐Intelligent Cyborg Insect Based on Insect Visual Perception

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
The bio‐intelligent cyborg insect (BCI) introduces a noninvasive ultraviolet‐based control method, leveraging natural sensory behaviors for adaptive navigation. By integrating biological and artificial intelligence, BCI minimizes habituation and enhances locomotion in complex environments.

Gecko‐Inspired Adhesive Grasping from Convex to Flat Surfaces with Contact Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A gecko‐inspired adhesive gripper with a pair of soft hierarchical bio‐toes and a bionic rolling module is designed for adaptive grasping from convex to flat surfaces. Integrated adhesive contact sensing enables the smart grabbing of complex items. The gripper exhibits adaptability, load‐bearing capacity, and potential for applications in industries ...

Decreasing the Cost of Morphing in Adaptive Morphogenetic Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Shape‐morphing propulsive limbs enhance locomotion across land‐to‐water transitions, but prior designs rely on thermally responsive components, coupling performance to environmental temperature. This study introduces a pressure‐responsive mechanism that reduces morphing energy costs, enables rapid transitions, and minimizes failure modes.

Liquid Metal Sloshing for High‐Load Active Self‐Healing System: An Application to Tendon‐Driven Legged Robot

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Liquid metal “sloshing” by the robot's own actuator is proposed to improve the self‐healing performance. The proposed method drastically enhances the healed strength by decomposing the surface oxides and the impurities. The method contributes to the world's first demonstration of active self‐healing behavior performed by a life‐sized legged robot. Self‐

When the sand blossoms: Phylogeny, trait evolution, and geography of speciation in Linanthus

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, Volume 112, Issue 3, March 2025.
Abstract Premise Understanding how plants successfully diversified in novel environments is a central question in evolutionary biology. Linanthus occurs in arid areas of western North America and exhibits extensive floral trait variation, multiple color polymorphisms, differences in blooming time, and variation in life history strategies.
