The influence of land-use/land-cover changes on land surface temperature: a case study of Kuala Lumpur metropolitan city

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Remote Sensing, 2018
This paper evaluates the impact of land-use and land-cover (LULC) changes on land surface temperature (LST) in the Kuala Lumpur metropolitan city using multi-spectral and multi-temporal satellite data.

Spatial and Temporal relationship between NDVI and Land Surface Temperature of Faisalabad city from 2000-2015 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The study estimates the land surface temperature of Faisalabad city. For the current study Landsat ETM+ images of 2000, 2003, 2010 and OLI/TIRS 2015 were acquired from USGS of the study area.

SPATIAL VARIABILITY OF THE HEAT EMITTED FROM THE LAND SURFACE IN DETERMINING THE CHARACTERISTICS OF DESERT SOILS IN AL-SAMAWAH DESERT USING “GIS”

open access: yesThe Iraqi Journal of Agricultural science
This study was aimed to reveal the variation land surface temperature "LST" with some characteristics of desert soils in the Samawa desert at Al-Muthanna province, and to adopt solutions and treatments by identifying factors and indicators that have a ...

Impacts of Land Cover Change on Urban Heat Island (UHI) in Denver from 1985 to 2020 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Rapid urbanization due to land use and land cover change has become one of the major problems in the fastest-growing cities during the past few decades. Land surface temperature has changed dramatically due to urban expansion, and it is a major driver of

Can Typical Land Surface Model Parameterizations Support the Expected Soil Moisture Assimilation Efficiency?

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 61, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract Remote sensing (RS) soil moisture retrievals are frequently assimilated into land surface models (LSMs) to enhance model estimates. However, soil moisture data assimilation (DA) efficiency is highly model‐dependent, making it imperative to investigate whether current LSMs can achieve expected DA efficiencies and identify potential model ...

Effects of rapid urbanisation on the urban thermal environment between 1990 and 2011 in Dhaka Megacity, Bangladesh [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This study investigates the influence of land-use/land-cover (LULC) change on land surface temperature (LST) in Dhaka Megacity, Bangladesh during a period of rapid urbanisation. LST was derived from Landsat 5 TM scenes captured in 1990, 2000 and 2011 and

Denudation rates and Holocene sediment storage dynamics inferred from in situ 14C concentrations in the Feshie basin, Scotland

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 50, Issue 4, 30 March 2025.
Inferred catchment‐averaged denudation rates in post‐glacial landscapes do not always reflect true ‘basin‐wide’ denudation rates, and instead represent a mixture of sediment sourced from paraglacial deposits and ‘background’ hillslopes. Our results highlight the role of the glacial legacy on landscape evolution.

Image Based Surface Temperature Extraction and Trend Detection in an Urban Area of West Bengal, India [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Rapid urbanization and change of landuse/landcover results in changes of the thermal spectrum of a city even in small cities like English Bazaar Municipality (EBM) of Malda district.

Vegetation‐Driven Spatial Heterogeneity of Land Surface Temperature Changes on the Chinese Loess Plateau

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 6, 28 March 2025.
Abstract A comprehensive understanding of the processes and mechanisms driving Holocene temperature changes is crucial for resolving the ongoing Holocene temperature controversy. Here, we reconstructed land surface temperature (LST) variations over the past 27,000 years in two loess‐paleosol profiles from the Chinese Loess Plateau based on soil ...
