Autonomous Drone Landing with Fiducial Markers and a Gimbal-Mounted Camera for Active Tracking [PDF]
Precision landing is a remaining challenge in autonomous drone flight. Fiducial markers provide a computationally cheap way for a drone to locate a landing pad and autonomously execute precision landings. However, most work in this field depends on either rigidly-mounted or downward-facing cameras which restrict the drone's ability to detect the marker.

Land‐Use Impacts on Plant Functional Diversity Throughout Europe
ABSTRACTAimGlobal biodiversity loss resulting from anthropogenic land‐use activities is a pressing concern, requiring precise assessments of impacts at large spatial extents. Existing models mainly focus on species richness and abundance, lacking insights into ecological mechanisms and species' roles in ecosystem functioning.

Multi‐Scaled Cellulosic Nanonetworks from Tunicates
Microbial and plant nanonetworks of cellulose have enabled a wide range of high‐performance yet sustainable materials. Herein, a third class of cellulosic nanonetworks is showcased by exploiting the only animal tissue‐producing cellulose nanofibers, i.e., ascidians. An ultrastructure including spherical cells and a microvasculature with diameters of 50–

Urban land-use analysis using proximate sensing imagery: a survey [PDF]
Urban regions are complicated functional systems that are closely associated with and reshaped by human activities. The propagation of online geographic information-sharing platforms and mobile devices equipped with Global Positioning System (GPS) greatly proliferates proximate sensing images taken near or on the ground at a close distance to urban ...

In this article, a water‐evaporation driven energy harvester is devised that works even in the absence of sunlight. This is achieved by combining PVA hydrogel with thermoelectrics (TEG) to directly capture energy from water evaporation. Under mild conditions (RH 40%, T of 26 °C, and 2.8 m s−1 wind), 1.71 mW (1.02 W m−2) power can be generated, >3 fold ...
